Upgrading to 20" wheels.. what tire brand?
I currently got the standard M-sport 255/50 R19s and thinking of upgrading to OEM 20" wheels soon. With that upgrade obviously comes new tires..
I know the common brands are Michelin (Pilot Super Sport) and Pirelli (P Zero). I've heard of a couple people with Continental ContiSportContact 5 (SSR SUV) but not too many (and Conti's being on the much pricier side). What brand do you recommend most?

I have the Dunlops on mine when I got my X5 earlier this year and so far at 3K miles the tires are loud My plan is to get the Conti DWS or the new version before winter comes. From the tires you listed above I think the PZero's would be my best bet in handling and noise level... Pilot SS would be my next choice.

The reviews on the Dunlops are not too pretty. Loud like you said, especially towards the end of the tires' lifespan (near 10k). Also, fast tread wear... etc.
I guess I'll settle with them P Zeros. Wish tires weren't so $$$!

So, on my E53 I have my second set of Conti DWS which are great if it rains or snows where you live. Size 275/40R20 front and 315/35R20 rear, you definitely want staggered the 315 on the back look mean. I can tell you not to get the Michelin Diamaris, they were OEM when my X5 was new and they wore out quick with lots of road noise. Horrible tires.

Thanks for all the replies.
Doing some researchin' and seems that the Michelin PSSs are not offered as run-flats for the X5 specs for 20". Also, according to some reviews, P Zero owners are not liking the Pirellis either. The only good reviews come from the Bridgestone DUELER H/P SPORT RFTs but I don't recall anyone here having them. The CONTISPORTCONTACT 5 SSR SUV seem good quality, but they're the priciest of all. I know the GL63 AMG comes as an OE option.

I think I'll miss the lengthy tread life of 19s once I upgrade to 20s. Currently on Scorpion Verde RFTs with over 10k miles and still got plenty of treadlife left!

We went from the OEM Dunlops to Continental Extreme Contact DWS and couldn't be happier. The ride is silent and smooth.

Are the Contis non-RFTs?

I have the Bridgestones on my E70 and like them. I'm actually getting the rear replaced now with a new set. They're comfortable, road noise isn't bad and I like the way they look.

I have 10K on my Pirelli (P Zero) and they seem to be using better - in terms of road noise and wear - than the Bridestone's I had on one of my E70s.

I thought I was the only one who cared how a tire looks! Contis and Dunlops look a little too "clean" and bald for me.. they look like inflatable pool rings on a car.
How much should I be expecting for a new set of staggered Pirelli P Zeros run-flats? Hovering around 2k? (before I give all these places a call for quotations...) Also, what are the specs/ratings of the wheels? Something like 110W or 100Y? What's the difference?

19" Bridgestone OEM on E70, tread life is pretty good but grip in wet surface isn't good 20" Pirelly OEM on F16, grip is much better than Bridgestone in both dry and wet weather condition. Road noise is also much quieter. Can't say much about tread life, only has 7K KM on them. |

That's a sexy-looking tire! I think I read somewhere that the X5 has the widest rear tires of any SUV in the market? X5s always look like tanks from behind. Beastly, to say the least.
Anyway, will I need new lug nuts if I get new wheels? (going from OEM 467-style wheels to OEM 491-style wheels). Or are they compatible? I've never done any "modding" so excuse me if it's a dumb question.

I don't see why there would be any reason to have to purchase new lug bolts, with new wheels, unless you desire a different finish.

A local tire shop is quoting me around $160 to do TPMS sensor swap, mount, balance, and installation of new wheels and tires. Does that sound reasonable?

I'm in the habit of calling three places. Doesn't hurt to cross shop.
