Axle back exhaust help

Hi Everyone,

New to te forum with a new to me 2015 sdrive xline. Bought it from my friend who replaced the 2 mufflers with generic ones. Sounds good but the drone in the 2k range is driving me nuts.

Took it to the shop and they recommended i can do the following
1) replace the generic mufflers with 2 magnaflow mufflers
2) add a vibran (spelling?) resonator and leave the mufflers on

Im leaning towards replacing with the magnaflows. Anyone installed magnaflows or soemthing similar? I dont want to go to a full premium exhaust at this point $$.

Any other recommendation?
Thanks in advance. Will post pics of my ride soon

If I'm not mistaken, your vehicle only has one muffler from factory. A single in, dual out. Definitely post some pics of your setup. I believe the branch of resonator would be Vibrant, definitely on the cheaper end of things (but hey, its a resonator).

magnaflow is not going to help with drone. I suggest putting your factory muffler back on and getting a downpipe instead.

It will be hard to get rid of the drone since the car has 8 speed and hatch design.
With 8 speed, during cruising speed, the engine will be on low rpm. And low rpm is a sweet spot for drone.
It most likely will be fine if you have an enclosed trunk. But with the X5/X6, the trunk air space is connected to the cabin air space.

Do you still feel the drone on sport mode?

No drone if you keep resonator and have a muffler on there. Even with a downpipe

Have you see the 35i setup on the X5/X6?
There is no resonator on the mid-pipe from the factory.
