How to remove speed limiter? (N55 engine)
Hi
My X6 35i is limited to ~135mph How do I have this removed? I've found an article that says Dinan's tune can remove the speed limiter, Source: http://www.bmwblog.com/2012/01/17/di...now-available/) However, I've checked their website now and it says : "The stock top speed governor is retained for xDrive vehicles." Source:http://www.dinancars.com/product/d90...ries&mid=1146/ Which is it really? Are there other tunes that can add more HP/Torque as well as removing the speed limiter? Can't decide if i'll go with piggyback tune or a flash tune. Cause other's say that the piggyback tune just "tricks" the ecu, while the flash tune is much more expensive while providing almost the same additional HP compared to piggybacks. Thanks |

If you ordered your X5 with 469M style 20" performance wheels from the factory then your X5 should have the increased top speed limiter as follows.
35i - 146 mph 35d - 143 mph 50i - 155 mph Apart from this, I have no idea how to remove the limiter completely.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for speed and definitely have a need for it. But who needs to go that fast in an SAV anyways?!?!

I hit 147mph in once on my 650GC, and my ball shrunk a little. HUD is not good for track, haha.

No piggyback will be able to remove the speed limiter.
You have to go with a custom flash tune and even then not all of them have that capability so make sure you ask. Alan |

I have an f15 35i x and just did about 129mph - what is the top speed of the 35i with 19" rims?
EDIT: This was in comfort mode on a long straight away of highway that was relatively flat maybe a 1% grade at most. I don't know why I didn't switch over to sport ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Last edited by TortugaX5; 03-31-2016 at 11:44 AM.. |

I don't think MPPK removes the top speed limiter so it would stay the same. MPPK will just help get to the top speed faster

In all seriousness that makes sense, get's you there faster but not actually goes faster. I've been toying with the idea of adding the MPPK and MPE to my ride. |

I think MPPK is a must for 35i cars for sure.
Stock 35i performance 0-60 is 6.1 seconds ( according to BMW ) and we all know BMW under rates their numbers. BMW promises MPPK tune to shorten that time by half a second to 5.6 seconds. MPE is just purely sound and I don't think it enhances performance at all, but it is one of the best sounding exhaust for a inline 6 engine... Some may argue that it sounds better than the current M3/M4's.

Cannot remove top speed limiter else warranty goes away...
You cannot get rid of the top speed limiter if you do under 20" wheels. I did it because i did not want to maintain two sets of tires (performance and winter). Did not make sense to me at that time. I thought it was a brilliant idea and of course how much more fast do you think one can drive on roads. Safety is also important unless you go to the track not once but many times for drag racing. It has taken lot of convincing after the purchase to think like this "haha" :-)
Yup, I am proud owner of a new 2015 BMW X5 F15 50i with the M Sport package. I had a joking client adviser and i believe he did not guide me well. After two years of driving in comfort mode, I too, do realize the need for speed and the adrenaline rush... is needed. I too wish i had done the 20" but i think for an SAV 0 to 60 in 4.6 sec is good at 5500 feet above sea level. Well I just use a mobile app which i think might not be accurate. It races faster amongst most SUVs even sedan sports cars. Not only 19", I also have a 3rd row. We know why we have a 3rd roc. Plus I have two gigantic car seats. I dont think, i would get rid of them for another couple of years. Just renewed the engine warranty. Dinan, I have gone back and forth with them and spoken to the team Leader. Engine running can help get you 0 to 60 in maybe 4.4 or 4.3 and not lower i guess. Though they claim 2/3 of second lower i.e. 0.666 less but i am thinking in reality its 0.3 lesser. All conditions must match. You can try higher octane level gas and i think it should get you a bit faster. |

Me. I have a pass through pro 4 and should have the ability to change the limiter up to the 155 mph but I do not know what area of the software that would be. I can program and update, if anyone can point me to that section it would be appreciated.

Speed limiter
I have a 20 X5 M50i. I was told that with the 20” wheels all season the limiter is 130 and if I go to summer tires it goes to 155. I should have the capability with my JBox and ISTA? I forgot the name. I have been using it some for other vehicles but don’t know what section of the software it would be in. Anyone here that can tell me where it would be? Thanks.
Also recommended upgrades. 530 HP is good, 600+ is better. |
