Picked up my X5d at the Performance Delivery Center today

What a great experience. The PDC is awesome. The track driving in an X5d with DHP just like mine was a blast and got met so amped to get my car. The off road driving was fun but did not compare to the track for me in terms of excitement but was great to see how capable the trucks really are.

The factory tour was a real highlight. The scale of the operation was so impressive. We saw X3s and X4s being built. I learned that this year Spartenburg built their 3 millionth car. Once the X7 line is operational at the end of 2018 or early 2019 Spartenburg will be the largest BMW factory in the world.

I got my car in a private garage/office with its own glass garage door though which I drove my X5 for the first time. All of the staff where awesome.

The ride home was in a torrential rain for the entire 2.5 hours. I can't wait to driving to work tomorrow without the fear of death and with the memories of getting my car at the PDC.

If you are ordering a BMW I highly recommend you take delivery at the PDC. We had people from NEw Jersey, Indianna, SC and Utah in our group.

More to come as I add miles to the car. Thanks to everyone here for your thoughts as I figured out what I wanted.
Best- Mike

Congrats. I hope to do a PDC delivery at some point. Didn't work out for us this summer though. Enjoy your new X5. Love those wheels!

.

I did the PCD delivery twice... in July for my F15, and in 2007 for my E70, it was a terrific
experience, and I would do it again in a heartbeat! ... also, for the night after you pick
up the car, consider staying at the Biltmore in Asheville ... the PDC has an arrangement
with them for basically half price ... and if you take the 3hr back way (instead of the
1.5 hr highway) the twisty roads are wonderful intro to your new ride!

However, BOTH times we were chumped out of the factory tour ... this time because
it was Independence Day holiday shutdown week ... last time because they were making
the "new" X6, but hadn't yet shared any pics of it ... I hope to return someday

.

sorry for the newb question.. is PDC delivery the same as Euro delivery? Is it cheaper to do a Euro delivery than local pick up?

no question is dumb ... euro delivery not avail for US buyers for cars made in Spartanburg
(they aren't going to ship your new X5 to Germany so you can pick it up there and
ship it back)

the PCD (Performance Center Delivery) is a great program ... and you can get Spartanburg
cars, or Euro made cars delivered there
  • pickup in an X5 at the airport
  • free hotel night
  • free dinner
  • free breakfast
  • bus to the PC
  • classroom
    .
  • similar car to what you are picking up provided for
