F15 spare options
Hey everyone:
Im planning a roadtrip soon and was wondering whats the best option that everyone else runs with? Spare donut + jack kit? (Most costly option) Fix a flat? (Low cost) Im running 21inch RFTs, will the fix a flat even work? |

Definitely get a spare. I had a blowout (cut sidewall) and one big puncture on the highway both on runflats, thank goodness I had a spare. Blowout just outside of Mt. Rushmore on the way to NY and recently on the LIE I couldn't avoid it when a truck tire blew up in front of me and cut my tire up real bad. Already did about 1200 miles on the spare.
There isn't much for choice. I got mine from bimmerzone. The E70 one is the same for the F15. As for jack... I could have gone the BMW way, but instead I got a 6 ton bottle jack and tire iron from my local auto parts store. Just make sure there is at least 15" height if you have rear air suspension. I got a 2 ton the first time and it didn't reach at all. Also get the BMW jackpad if you don't go OEM jack. I got mine on Amazon. |

I swapped to go flat Conti DWS06's earlier this year. I carry a small/portable compressor that runs off 12v and a plug kit. Both fit easily into the driver's side luggage area 'cubby.'

I've got a third row, so that wasn't an option for me unfortunately.

The 6 ton bottle jack I mentioned earlier fits perfectly in the little cubby behind the third row seats. 8 ton bottle jacks and scissor jacks do not fit. 2/4 ton bottle jacks fit of course, but with the air suspension they do not lift the rear tire off the ground high enough, so they're useless. Also put a breaker bar in there because a lot of shops use an air gun to put on tires. I also keep a tire plug kit, pliers (for pulling out screws and stuff), wheel chocks, an air compressor in the left cubby behind the cover. |

Ah yes, with the 3rd row that limits your options. I keep a first aid kit, reflective vest, flashlight and fire extinguisher in the left cubby. A set of reflective triangles goes in with the spare tire and jack.

My "Spare" in both my BMWs is a high-quality 12v air compressor (you're gonna pay $80-$100 but it's worth it), a $20 scissor jack from Harbor Freight, a Torque Wrench w/ 17MM deep socket w/ plastic outer-casing, and the StopNGo tire plug kit.
