Special Order Color

Has anyone tried special ordering an exterior color in the US? I was told only X6M and X5M can be special order color and there are only 4 color choices available. They are the same color choices that are available as Individual colors for the non-Ms outside the U.S. Azurite black, pearl silver, pyrite brown, and ruby black.

I was told yes, when I wanted an M Sport in Mineral Silver. But, I did not follow up when they said it would be $4-5k. I am not sure if it was conjecture or if they actually knew this could be done.

Just to put it out there vinyl wrapping is the easiest solution since it really doesn't add value to the car unless it's a really really universally original color which any enthusiast would pay extra for real paint on a used vehicle. i.e. LSB E46 M3's or Dakar Yellow E Series am cars.

But if you don't care eff it do what you want

My CA told me it would be $5k. He put the request in for special color, but the next day he called me to say that he was told that it was not an option for US Spec cars.

What color did you request? Did you get it?

I have asked for azurite on an 2016 X5M build. One dealer quoted me $1950 for the paint. Another dealer said "$3-$5k". Which one is correct?

I've done some research on the boards and it seems that the price varies for any reason. Some say $1950 for a color that BMW list as individual for a particular series, then it goes up from there. $3K for a color from another BMW model. $5K for any historical BMW color. Higher for a non-BMW color (such as a Ferrari red or Porsche yellow). The higher cost is for the R&D to make and match the color.

I did not finalize a color, I just wanted blue without having to get an M. I was quoted the $1950 for any of the 4 individual colors available in Europe for the X6. If I wanted any other color it would be $5000 and up. Wasn't told about a $3000 price.

I ended up getting one of the regularly available colors because I was told BMW NA was not doing special color requests at the Spartanburg plant.

Ah. I see. What car did you get?

I hope it holds for me. I am getting an X5M and I want one of their 4 individual colors. I am okay with the $1950. Anything above that seems like they are just trying to bilk US customers.

I don't know about why they would say that about special requests and the Spartanburg plant. The Canadian website has the four individual colors listed on the website with the upcharge for the X5M/X6M. Both of those cars are made in the SC plant. To me, it's not a special order color request if they are already doing it at the same plant.

I have an MSport Space Gray X6. I know, it doesn't make sense because they wouldn't even do one of the Individual colors for me just because I'm in the U.S.

My dealer said it will probably become available in a few years. It sucks.

I know I´m not in the US but for info I wanted to get the Tasman green on my 15 X5 M50d but was told several times that it was IMPOSSIBLE. No matter the cost. Great service. Not.

Did anyone tell you what "being in the U.S." has to do with denying a customer an Individual color?

My dealer told me that BMW North America makes a lot of decisions that don't make sense. He gave me several examples, one of which included a commercial that was playing on the screen in the showroom that they are unable to change. The commercial is for a 1 series hatch that is not available in the U.S.
