Privacy Glass

I see the privacy glass is a STD option on X5. Is that the tints that X5's comes with? I'm in CA and wondering what tint % BMW X5 as default. I'm about to place an order and want to make sure I select the options (if there's any, couldn't see anything specific in the ordering guide) for tints.

I was at dealership and saw many X5's with tints but failed to ask the CA about the tint options (anyways, they are clueless for most of the questions you ask!

I live in SoCal. The privacy glass is nice and dark...not sure of the tint level, but you are fine in California. The issue in California is the amount of tint on the front windows. The privacy glass is a feature for the back windows (not including the rear windshield). The driver and passenger windows don't have the dark tint.

Thanks, I wonder where do I find details (such as you mention about rears only) on BMW website.

If it wasn't for this forum, I'd be playing blind when ordering a new build.

If you look on cars.com or ebay for new X5's from dealers, you'll see the back window is dark. Front window is not.

AFAIK you have no choices to make ... it comes in the US with the rear sides tinted at a set %

LOL, I'm sure I'm, but I dont order a 75k car everyday and I dont want to end up with a car that I dont like

Most if not all manufacturer will not put tints on the the two front windows as most US dont allow it. Tints are usually put in the rear doors, rear windows. if that is your concern then you will be fine.

Agree with all posts. Rear windows will come, for the most time, tinted. Front windows, no. You'll have to go to a tint shop if you wish to go dark for the front ones

Look at the threads that ask for input on builds. You will get all you need and not start wondering if there are different tints from the factory.
