Say goodbye to E70 50i and hello F15 40e

Anniversary gift for my wife. We still love the 50i and will sure miss the power. Though with the little baby onboard I rarely rev higher than 3000RPM now.

The new 40e is the wife-approved color and super high tech! I love cruising around the neighborhood in pure electric mode and I can see people are confused that why the big SUV makes no sound My wife works in environmental engineering field so the 40e fits her environmental conscious profile much better than the 50i.

Beautiful! I bought the F15 with my wife in mind also since it's just such a comfy SUV to drive. She loves it, and your wife will also!

I was going to say hand back your man-card, but probably a smart choice for wife and child. I want BMW to make a performance oriented hybrid option, with either the 40d or 50i....

Haha I don't worry about who's holding the card in my family. I love my wife and would do anything to make her happy. It's also a great excuse to get new gadgets (cars are bigger gadgets too).

C'mon, it's not like the X5 is the manliest car out there in the first place. My mother in law calls it "that cute little SUV".

Thank you! We just took our 40e on a road trip for ~1300 miles and we love it! Being out there made me realize charging stations are still difficult to come by, and we didn't charge the car at all throughout the trip.

I was worried about how the hybrid drivetrain would work in such situations but it's pretty impressive. With regenerative braking, our battery level is at ~10% just by driving normally at Auto eDrive mode. The car still goes to all electric mode at parking lot speed. When more power is needed, the gasoline engine kicks in smoothly. My dad was skeptical about PHEV and even he was impressed!

Onto the negatives: Reduced cargo space. The huge storage space underneath the trunk floor is gone completely and the floor is raised by a couple inches. And the rear air suspension seems a bit unsettled when driving over a large bump.

A couple more pics edited with the popular Prisma app.

Congrats! It looks stunning in white. Unfortunately white SUV's are not common in Norway, so I went safe when I ordered my black sapphire.

Can't wait to get mine in some months!

The rear bumber on the old e70 is so much nicer with the mesh and diffuser detail. The f15 almost looks like a minivan

My wife has named our mineral white 40e "moby". I didn't even know she liked that type of music.

I happen to have pictures for both trucks. It doesn't look like much, but when comparing side by side, the vertical space is a lot smaller in the 40e. What we really missed is the underground cargo space though.

Top one is E70 and bottom one is F15 40e.

Congrats!! Too bad the 40e didn't come with a 3rd row. I had to settle for the 35d 3rd row!
