Post New iDrive System upgrade/update?

Let me know if this has been posted somewhere, could not find it.

I own a 11/15 X5 35D and received a newer model from the Dealership today as a loaner during the service period. I noticed that the iDrives System seems to have gotten a facelift within the last year or so... Does anybody know if we can update the software ? Thanks!

It has been posted many times.

HU_NBT2 ('17+ F15's) is required for ID5/ID6.

You cannot simply update software on existing HU_NBT system.

Previous posters didn't do a great job of answering your question. The short answer is no you cannot simply update the software. You would need the parts from the newer iDrive and need to code the vehicle as well. Your vehicle has the NBT iDrive System. 2017 and newer models have the NBT Evo.

So I have a June build 2017 X5, would I be able to get the full functionality out of ID6?
I think one of the features they were touting was hand gestures, did they change the screen in the 2018 model to make this possible? I know ID5 already detects your hand when you raise it toward the screen, is it not using the same sensors?

Thanks!

For hand gestures you will see multiple small rectangular sensors on the side of the screen.

That's what I've got as far as I can tell .. I think there are 3 or 4 on each side. When I raise my hand on ID5 it will change to touch input and when I put my hand down it changes back to the controller wheel.

I'm Sorry ... but apparently not enough times otherwise I would have not ask...

Ho hard is it to replace the part and how much does it cost? I can do the coding myself...

THANKS! Do you happen to have the part numbers? Just curious how much it would be... and how hard to do....

Up to $3K.

You would need completely new IDrive system, GPS antenna, and FSC codes.
