2014 Space Gray X-line 35i - Delivered

Just picked my 2014 X5 Space Gray X-Line 35i and did 300 or so highway miles. A good amount of pics can be found here. I had the dealer tint the front windows and had the sides de-badged at pick-up.

Specs:
2014 35i x-drive
  • X-line
  • Premium Package / Cold Weather
  • Driver Assistance Package
  • Lighting
  • Multi-contour seats
  • Dynamic Damper Control + Rear Axle Suspension
  • ACC Stop & Go
  • Harmon Kardon
  • Ceramic
  • Comfort Rear seats / Space Saver Spare
  • 4 zone climate
  • Rear Entertainment

11/23 Notes:
  • Multi-contour Terra seats are comfortable on a 5 hour ride like I had today.
  • Steering is noticably light compared to my E70. It's not a deal breaker b/c there are so many good things about F15. I got over it.
  • If you do a lot of highway, I highly recommend ACC Stop & Go. It was so nice to set a desired speed and not worry about braking. I did not order Driver Assitance Plus and I also received Lane Departure Warning - that was a nice surprise.
  • The rear entertainment is a bit quirky but it seemed to keep the kids quiet. I am able to control the DVD playback via i-drive - but only to start or stop the movie. With the remote, I could blindly fast forward or rewind.
  • Active High-beam assist worked well.
  • The front LED lights look mean and love the brightness and clarity at night
  • My tires were filled with Nitrogen and have the green caps on it. This was also confirmed with my CA.
  • Key fob does not have ///M colors like the MSport key fobs but it is heavily weighted. Feels solid in your hands.

11/24 notes:
  • After 300 miles of driving through rain, the car looks clean. My old jet black X5 would be looking filthy right now.
  • I'm not seeing much brake dust. Not sure if it's new type of pads or the rims hiding it?
  • I almost thought BMW forgot the heated steering wheel option as I couldn't find it. It's on the left-side of the steering column not on the wheel itself. The wheel heats up pretty fast.
  • Coming from my old diesel, car is super quiet and also feels weird when the engine stops for eco-pro. It does start right up quick though.
  • It's the weirdest feeling the first time you try active cruise. My natural reaction is to hit the brake or cancel cruise when approaching a vehicle from behind. Very strange and cool.

11/25 Notes
  • Drove a total of 1,100 miles in 3 days on the F15. The handling is noticeably improved vs. my E70; however, I have the Dynamic Damper Control + rear axle air suspension so my opinion may be skewed. The car just feels solid and when navigating bumps in the road it doesn't jerk me around like my E70 (with no suspension) did.
  • Love Active Cruise + HUD for long trips. It's fun to let the car pretty much drive itself (except steering). ACC Stop and Go does require you hit the gas if you come to a complete stop.
  • 22.5 avg MPG with 4 passengers, full trunk, and usually at 80MPH.
  • The rear entertainment remote lights up at night and in the BMW orange. Nice touch.

Any questions?

Can you share some photos of the terra multicontours and interior? We haven't seen those yet. I ordered them sight unseen!

At least on my iphone, these pics make the Terra look more orange than they did when I saw them in person. Mind you the ones I saw were Dakota not Nappa, and sport seats not multi contour, but that shouldn't matter.

Xline question

I see that you have the xline (love those wheels, btw). Did you choose the option to delete the running boards? I'm considering xline and still not sure about the running boards

Pretty sure Terra is not available in Nappa

Anyway, thanks so much for sharing your pix, and congrats on your new ride.

Meanwhile, continues to be hard to tell from photos (both on BMW's site and from owners) what the various interior and exterior colors really look like.

My local Mercedes and Audi dealers at least have swatches of their leathers and sampler boards of their exterior paints -- but I have never found anything like that at my local BMW dealers. Is that just me, or is that the way BMW operates across the country?

Love the colour of the seats.

On the rear entertainment screens can you play video from iPhone/iPad/iPod etc?

Thanks. Yes, I did delete the running boards for $400 less. I had running boards on my E70 and they were notorious for rubbing pant legs. When I built my F15, there were no real pics for me to evaluate how wide the running boards would be so I removed them.

I believe you can play external sources. You will most likely need an lightning cable to RCA adapter (assuming latest gen of iphone/ipad/ipod). I'll check it out later today and take some pics.

Thanks for the interior pics Rick. Looks great. It's probably true, to Chris' point, that depending on lighting & display Terra pictures seem to vary, some angles looking more orangey, but I think it looks great. Looking forward to seeing more Terra!

Here's a quick video of starting rear entertainment from the front of the car.

Here is a pic of the rear of the center console for media inputs. I haven't tried anything yet.

When I select xline online and then select option to remove running boards, my total stays the same, it doesn't deduct $400. Is this correct? Did you get $400 credit for removing them?

You're right. I just looked at my build doc and it says "remove running boards N/C" :-)

I'll check in a few days. I'm on the road and don't have a USB drive on me.

LCD Speedo is part of Driver Assist Package and/or Driver Assist Plus for 35i. It's good eye candy!

Love heated steering wheel - hate the switch there....Its where they put it on my X3 too.

You can't see when it's on w/out taking you eyes off the road. At least put a light in the dash for when it's turned on
