HD sound in your car?

I would like to have the HD sound in the car, meaning 24bit. I am in no way an expert in this and am only stating here what I over heard. Tidal is an app on the App store that is supposed to stream HD quality music. Subscription is like $20 a month (I use US app store, but am located in Europe) which is mega pricey but maybe worth it. I would really like to use it next weekend as I am going for a longer ride (approx. 10 hours).

I use US app store, but am located in Europe.

Not sure whether the streaming (i have an iphone6 with 4G - no clue if that info is relevant here) will be ok as the signal is usually weaker (have no snap in adapter for the iphone6, have media adapter where I keep all of my current music on the iphone4).

Anyways, can you please help. I hear that HD quality music is far better even than the CD sound.

Cheers!

I don't know much about Tidal app but X5 can handle HD music including the highest quality 24 bit 192k flac tracks. Just copy flac hd tracks on a USB drive and plug it in your X5's usb port. Works great.

I must say HD sound is pretty awesome quality. Also the car recognized flac immediately and displayed album art from USB in good quality.

Don't know if it's me or my ears, but I really can't tell the difference between flac and a good MP3 recording.

Two things:

1) Car has to be stationary to hear the difference between a good 320 MP3 and FLAC (for most records at least);
2) Car must have at least HK (B&O is obviously the preferred choice).

Bottom line is: don't bother looking for differences in quality if you're doing 100 mph on a bad road with standard stereo (as an example).

I do have an HK system, but still the difference (if any) when driving (not doing 100 but freeway speeds) is very minimal to me at least.

Sorry to bother with this again, but wanna know how do I get the album artwork to show. The artwork (downloaded from HD tracks) is saved as .pdf. One album shows the artwork, the others do not. Does the art file have to be saved in a specific format to show? Thanks!

When I download songs from my computer to a stick, cd, or usb, I pair the album cover with the song. It's usually a jpg file.

You have to embed the album artwork inside your flac/mp3 file. There are lots of programs available to do this. I use program called TagScanner (for Windows).
Btw, cover art for flac does not always work for me. Mp3 tracks always work.

Any updates on the ability to play FLAC 16 or 24 bit via USB? Can iDrive handle a larger (say 500GB) USB drive, or are there limits on drive size? Are there still issues displaying album artwork? Thx

Files will play, sound good. 500gb not sure if works, think it is too big. Artwork an issue, drove a mini (new one), artwork displayed, not on the x5 though, sometimes it is displayed, sometimes not. I have not updated the media via usb though.

Tag & Rename metadata editor works with flac, a little buggy at times but I have been able to fix all of the troublesome albums to display the album art. The nice thing about Tag & Rename is you can apply the album art on a per song basis. I have found that the some songs have album art and others don't on the same album, only way to fix that is to apply the album art per title. If you are creating flac from you own CD's try EAC(Exact Audio Copy) it does a fantastic job of finding the album info including the art using GD3 database.

I have a NBT and for all the mp3 the album art is nicely shown. However for flac it does not. I never get album art for flac files. All the flac files have embedded album art with 500x500 resolution. Of course it nicely plays the song but no pictures shown.

Any suggestions?

Thanks
