Pirelli Run Flats

I have a 2014 X5 M-Sport with the P-Zero Run Flats.
Around 11K miles on them.
The look fine but driving on uneven roads like there are around here in North Texas, the tires track strange, what I mean is the car seems to shift around the uneven part of the road. I no these are summer performance tires and have not much tread, but I can't see they are already needing to be changed out at only 11K.
Had the X5 in for the 1 year service and BMW does not rotate them either.
Might run them by Discount to see what they say.
Thanks

They're staggered wheels and tires they aren't supposed to be rotated. But something definitely that needs to be checked. Maybe alignment

It tracks fine when the road is smooth, but driving over uneven surface you can feel it in the wheel

I have this with mine on uneven roads. I had it with my old X5 and previous 2 M-Bs. It is the size of the tyres. On my old X5 when i put on the skinny high profile winter 18" wheels all was fine.

I have the Pirelli RF and like/hate them. I like the fact that they perform fairly well on dry and some wet pavement, that said, their wear is terrible. I had the rears replaced with 3/32 left and only 72000 miles on them. The fronts have 5/32 and no I don't lead foot them. Had the alignment checked, and everything was within specs. It drives straight and true, no wander, no vibration, just lousy mileage out of them.

It's also hard to find (good selection) staggered tires in that size.

72,000 miles out of a set of tires is impressive and fantastic in my opinion. Did you mean 7,200 miles? If so, that is lousy.

Did I mention that I fail in typing.

It was 7200 miles!

my runflats, the 20inch continental i believe. are no way going to last past 10K miles

all RFT i have owned act the way you've stated. some worse then others, but all run flats, being that they must be inflated more than non run flat and usually have very hard compounds and sidewalls will be impacted greatly by road surface.
imagine rolling a bowling ball across ruts and potholes and imagine a workout ball doing the same.(those bouncy >3 foot ones you do abs and core work)

as you said, clean surface clean ride, ruff surface ruff or unpredictable ride.

check your current tire pressure once heated by driving, and make sure it isnt too high, and try to lower it to see if that helps. obviously within tire specs.

the less tread (tire Wear) the less cushion and give for road imperfections.

thats not to say my jeep wrangler on 35inch tall tires on 18 wheels didnt wander or shift with road imperfections!!! those were soft tires too!! could sleep one!!

In talking to my buddies at the tire shop, they said that RF don't last that long because of the rigid sidewall.
With standard radial tires, there is flex in the sidewalls and when you accelerate the give and grip the road, whereas the RF with their stiff sidewall which doesn't flex so it slips rather than grips, which kind of makes sense.

I have about the same terrible wear on my 20" P zero RFT's as you guys!
I do like the ride on them though, but it will be crazy expensive to buy a new set every year. Best price in sweden is about 1600-1700 USD for a set.
I do think I will keep on buying RFT's because of BMW's road insurance policy, and my mind was a bit set on the Contis but now I understand they are not much better than the Pirellis when it comes to wear...
There is obviously only 4 brands that can supply the staggered 20" option in RFT: Pirelli, Conti, Dunlop and Bridgestone. I am very sad that there isn't any from Michelin!
So what do all you guys with 20" RFT's think? Which of the above are the best?
Please give your view on the 20" tires your F15 was delivered with....
I am very confused to say the least. Michelin latitude sport 3 would be my preferred choice but that would make me get a spare and skip the road insurance policy...maybe that's the best choice after all!?

Here's another idea.

I have the Dunlop's on mine and I like them. But when they wear out, I will be buying the Conti Extreme Contact DWS. No, they are not run flat. But I am a AAA member and my membership provides one tow up to 200 miles and three tows up to 100 miles, per year. The DWS are the highest rated tires in their category (according to tire rack.com with nearly 44 million miles of opinions) and cost around $1100 for a set. So, I get a better ride, towing to nearly any town that services standard tires, AAA discounts and the overall cost of ownership is much less than run-flats.

Maybe you have a similar organization to AAA in Sweden...

I got Nitto Motivo non runflat tires on mine, 20" setup and they have a 50k treadwear warranty. I have AAA but I also got a space saver spare tire in the trunk as well, just in case. they also have a much better ride quality than runflats.

How tight is that OEM spare in the lower compartment of the trunk? My F15 is not prepared for one so there is no middle pole to hold it.
Maybe I can just put it in there without securing it...?

I currently am running 21" Pirellis and was able to 'squeeze' about 10k miles out of them. Pathetic. This week I'll be putting on 21" Michelin PSS and cannot wait.

I'm a member of AAA so I'm not concerned about getting stuck somewhere but I would love to know what members are doing for spare tire setups. Or is it just wishful thinking when running a staggered 21" setup?

I was thinking the same and I ordered the spare with my F15. Would you expect to run the same tire pressures as on the run flats? If not how would you determine what is correct?

I would not put it there unsecured as during an accident it might go flying. Spare will not fit with the carpet in the compartment.

If going for non run flats I will probably sort myself with some kind of towing insurance and some kind of compressor repair kit.
Just sent a question to Michelin if the Latitude sport 3 will be available in 275/40 R20 106W this summer. Right now they only come in 102W and 106Y.
What difference will it make if I go 106Y in the front?
Rear tires are available in the correct setup, 315/35 R20 110W.
I really want to get rid of the RFT's and get the Latitudes....

When I change, I will call Continental for their recommendation. Then I'll play with the pressure up or down a pound or two, to fit my driving and comfort.

21" Michelin PSS installed today. After 5 miles the ride is soooo much better.

And yes I know... Reflector delete ordered.

You guys got me concerned. I have the Pirelli Scorpians RF on my 19"s that came with the X5. Am I going to have to change them after 1-2 years with ~20K miles on them?
