At first, i hated the X6 but…...
Now i see its purpose!!! As an X5 owner the X6 never made sense to me. Why get the same SUV with less storage space? Well i have my M5 sitting in the garage that i can never drive since its always snowing or raining or salt on the roads, etc. I have only 3800 miles on my '13!! So as a replacement for the X5? Nope. makes no sense to me still! But as a replacement for the M5?? X6M makes perfect sense! Its just as quick (maybe quicker on these roads) and i can drive it year round! It handles better than the X5 and much more sporty. So now that it makes sense, its really tempting me to sell the M5 and get the X6M! I think i would actually enjoy driving it more. I love my X5 35D for a daily driver. I think an X6M would be a great 3rd car (also have a Ford Raptor for truck duty).

I think it's a solid idea. 3 SUVs in the garage - all with different specs and uses, but all able to drive in ANY weather...seems perfect. Of course, an M5 is a beauty and a great car....no denying its handling/capability/poise. I'm sure many will chime in and say don't do it because no SUV will compete with a sedan (lower to the ground, etc). Maybe the alternative would be to wait for the AWD M5?

Im actually really surprised with the way the x6 handles, especially in sport mode. i often finding myself flying through big round abouts like "S" bends with minimal body roll... VERY impressive...

AWD M5 would be awesome. I don't go powersliding around the streets anyways! I just get annoyed when i put my foot down and either tires spin or traction control comes on. Lucky if i see 0-60 in 6 seconds in the M5 here. I think the X6M would handle great for me. I'm not planning to track the M5. Its in too perfect condition. Not one chip or swirl. It just sits in the garage too much. I do love the car but just can't really enjoy its performance here.

I was looking at the X6 as a replacement for an SUV which i just could not wrap my head around. Now looking at it as a replacement for a performance sedan it makes perfect sense! Kind of half between the M5 and X5 really. I'm digging it!

Yeah, makes perfect sense to me. The fact that you're getting 0-60 in 6 seconds and not less boggles my mind. I guess it has too much wheel spin after all. Here's where an AWD system is just lovely . My 50i with RaceChip is easily under the 4.5 second mark sitting at 522hp/564 torque - I really can't wait to test the DashCommand with OBDlink scanner. I saw the X6M in Laguna Blue Blue at the DC Auto Show parked next to the F15 X5 50i in Mineral Silver, and it was definitely a wonderful vehicle to see. Too bad I couldn't sit in it. They locked all the M vehicles (for a good reason too).

Just kidding... no way can I afford a 4th car in the already over-crowded garage, not with Her Majesty holding on the family purse strings .... grrrrr |

My racechipped 35d is faster 0-30 than my M5! All about traction here. I'd bet my X5 50i was faster 0-60 than the M5 as well. After 60 its game over but to me the 0-60 is the whole point of a fast car!

I still don't get it. Your logic amounts to comparing the X6M to an X5. If you want the performance of an M, I certainly understand. (I have one). If you want the performance of an M that you can drive year round, I certainly understand that also... Like you, my M is parked in the garage most of the winter. But if you're going to go with an SUV, why not go with the X5M. The best of all worlds, and I can't believe there is a noticeable difference in performance, if any at all, between the X5M and the X6M. And the X5M doesn't look like If your logic took you to an X5 over an X6 because it makes no sense to reduce the storage capacity of an SUV for no apparent reason, it seems the same logic applies to the X5M vs. X6M.

OP, do you really need all the cargo space X5 has to offer?
Do you have more than 2 kids? I would just sell X5 and M5 and get X6 Better performance, decent utility You still have your Raptor for extra utility I can guarantee you, once you drive X6M, your X5d will collect dust It's a great toy and DD |

I like this analogy. If we didn't have wet crappy pot-holed roads, plus a need for AWD to get to the mountains, I'd buy an M5 in a heartbeat.
I don't have room for two cars.... but I want something that's still fun to drive, unique to look at, and doesn't make me resent not being able to have something "fun and sporty". I don't need the "practicality" of the X5M, and happen to love the way the X6M looks.... so it's a great solution for me. When this one comes up for replacement though, it'll be a harder choice if the next-gen M5 is AWD.... |
