Paint in bumper looks different...
Look at the paint from the bumper and the paint from everywhere else, just the rear number has a toasty color, like creamy. Why would it come like that from the factory? The front bumper looks exactly like the rest of the vehicle paint.
What should I do? I don't like that! Three of my friends have told me that and it's like embarrassing.... |

Eeww, I did see that and it is lasered into my memory. Just kidding.
I would ask the dealer if there was any damage whereby repairs were performed, if so ask for the Damage notification or paper work for all completed work. Failing that, I would politely inform the dealer that you just noticed it and you had no accident/carfax report and ask them to make good. If they repaint it is better on the bumper as compared to say the door. IMO, factory pain on metal is best. |

If it's mineral white, there's nothing you can do. It's very difficult to get a tri-stage metallic paint like this perfect to match unless you paint the whole car. It has something to do with how the paint fades ever so slightly over time compared to a brand new coating. Even if you get it repainted, you'll still see a hue difference. That's the problem with trying to perfect the amount of each color used to attain that factory look.
As barcelona said, see if your dealer can repaint it as close to the original paint as possible...still might be difficult, but I guess that's the only option. Last edited by opasha; 02-21-2015 at 08:07 PM.. |

My front bumper was the same way. When I installed painted reflectors it became even more noticeable. The paint adhesion between plastic and metal is different and it's not always possible to get a 100% match. It's more noticeable on lighter colors for sure.
You can inquire with your dealer to see what options are available. Mine worked with BMW to offer a free respray, but I had already mounted the CF pieces and it would've been a huge production to do. I just lived with it and figured it gave the car a little character.

I have had my X5 for one year, 20k miles and I notice it more now, as if the paint is toasting! LoL! I know it sounds crazy, but people are noticing and I don't like it. I'll ask the dealer, they'll probably say it's normal or they won't notice.

@mikikuki7, or they will say that they can't replicate what you see.

I take it matched when received. Maybe compare to a pic if you took some on/near delivery date. Good Idea, talk to them as only a year old. Maybe its your hot sunny summers and is the reason some members tint their front windows to avoid the sun.

it is becoming more common with in regards to the quality of paint applied on our x5 as I also have some minor defects like lack of paint in certain areas showing primer
it is unfortunate that any defects we do not notice on the delivery date can be blamed on the customer I suggest with a proper colored wax or glaze you can hide the difference in hue, but as far as repainting it could come out worse than the original paint work, guaranteed For the owners that is noticing hue difference after a year or so, a good professional detail or paint correction can remove the contamination embedded on the paint work and it should be back to the OEM hue |
