2016 X5 xDrive 35i Drivetrain Malfunction

Hey guys, Owned an 2016 X5 xDrive 35i for about 1 month and it’s been amazing, But a few weeks ago I got a Drivetrain Malfunction and I started to drive and it went away so I thought nothing of it. Now a few weeks later, It’s back! Last time I was parked and this time I was just sitting in my Driveway messing with the Sound System and it came up. Tried to read any codes with a Sensor and nothing came up so should I take it to BMW?

Alright so, Last night I went for a quick drive around the block to see what would happen. As I started to drive it went away, Called BMW and will take the car to them Monday Morning. Also ordered a better Scanner like you guys said, I’ll go and see what the Battery age is later today.

Well you probably trickle charge yours and monitor the voltage. Also climate, car usage and other factors play role in battery life.

You'd be better off pulling the rear cover and looking at the stamp date on the head of the terminals.

and yes, ISTA is a requirement if you plan to DIY this yourself. A standard ODB2 code reader will guide you but will not complete many of the trouble shooting steps in order to reset certain systems. ISTA is great for this.

I don’t do that, but the car lives in the Bay Area so it’s treated to a fairly easy life.

I’ve found I get about a decade out of stock BMW batteries given my experience on my last 4 BMWs. one of which lived a hard life in the Midwest.

I did need to top Off the cells in my e91 tho.

Alright I completely forgot about this forum post I made lol. But what it ended up being was the Main Oil Filter Cap went missing, so RIP 500 Bucks from BMW. After getting it I’ve had no issues (This happened months ago when I actually had the issue)
