Battery question
my 2017 X5 is now 7 years old and still on the original batteries (2). It has been without question the most satisfying and almost flawless vehicle I have ever owned(one warranty repair for a faulty rear hatch strut).
Having returned from a month in Florida I was anticipating starting issues but thankfully it continues to turn over perfectly. With that being said, what is everyone seeing terms of battery life expectancy and are the two batteries available from outside vendors or does one need to go to the dealer ?

I don’t buy anything from the dealer. I got my last battery from advance auto parts. It was a die hard brand and cost about $230.

Most BMW dealership parts dept. have become pretty competitive in regard to battery pricing. In fact my local dealership had the best price in town and online for the larger 105AH battery (which is a 95R H9 battery class size). I was out the door for $227 whereas everyone else was more plus many of the other brand batteries were only 100Ah.
I would price check first before writing the BMW dealership off completely. And this is going to the parts dept…not the service dept which will be charging for installation and registration. The BMW branded battery also came with a little baggy adhered to the side that had a new little black elbow (used to connect the car’s vent tube to the battery) and an additional spare plug (to insert into the vent hole on the other side of the battery). If you don’t get this additional vent plug…you need to remove the one from your old battery and reuse it in your new battery because it will prevent any off gases being released into the enclosed battery compartment.

Agree with QSilver. I was shocked to find my local BMW dealer was also within $10 of the cheapest available battery. Seemed obvious to go that route.

My 2015 X5 35i is on its original battery also. That's 9 years. I only drive it maybe once a week for total of 70 miles and have left it parked in the garage during winters for months. I recently did a annual oil change with my local BMW dealer and after they did a overall check of the vehicle they found the battery is still at 85% which is phenomenal condition.
I do have the X5 plugged into the trickle charge from Ctek when leave it parked for a long period of time during winter months and condition the battery occasionally.
