Apple CarPlay added to cars after delivery?

So a local dealer is telling me that apple CarPlay can be a software update to vehicles that don't have it. They mention 2017s. Anyone know if this is true? What about previous years? I have a call in to a BMW genius to see what they say

At least here in Belgium you can get Apple CarPlay from the ConnectedDrive store: simply log in to BMW ConnectedDrive, go to Store and select Apple CarPlay. It'll tell you if your car is compatible or not. My 2016 isn't...

It's available here in North America now too through the online store.

So long as you have iDrive 5 and enhanced Bluetooth, you can indeed add it on later - for £235 in the U.K.

Reports aren't fantastic when compared to iDrive so I've not bothered.

We ordered it with our car that we picked up on Friday.

Save your money. My wife, who really likes her iPhone and uses it a ton with work, had me shut it off immediately during delivery at the Performance Center.

But for the benefit of whoever still wants it, I can confirm it is available in the US as a service subscription at the Connected Drive store (log in to see it). Price is $300 for 20 years. I believe it's the same if you add the option when the vehicle is built.

What was wrong that you shut it off? I just ordered 2017 and waffled on CarPlay, eventually removing it from the build. Rep said Using CarPlay will shut off the BMW nav and use iPhone maps instead. I happen to really like BMW nav for the traffic info so that's why I took CarPlay off the order.
