Upgrading Speakers for Current F15

Hey Guys,

I am planning to upgrade the current speakers, but i am not sure the speakers' size. Are they 1" Sweeters /4" mids /8" Sub woofer? Looking forward to hear from your advise. Thanks!

Yes the speakers are 1?, 4? and 8?. The tweeters are 25mm, the kids are 100mm and the underwear subs are 200mm. Bavsound makes pretty decent drop in speakers that are pretty easy to install as long as you don?t mind getting your hands a little dirty. There are better options for upgrading the audio system however the cost for that obviously goes up. Do you have the Harman Kardon setup or Hi-Fi? There are companies that make better speakers imo however the HK amp just isn?t enough to drive those high performing speakers to their full potential.

Thank you for your information. I only have the small screen NBT (I guess it is the lowest version) in my car. I am still considering that shall i upgrade to NBT4 or EVO5.

Does the music quality on the NBT lowest version good enough?

Thanks!

Hi,

actually the version of NBT doesn't really have any impact to sound quality.

I upgraded my 335i with DLS UP4i front speakers, Earthquake SWS-8i subs, added JBL MS-8 to drive everything else than Earthquakes which had Mosconi AS-100 highend amplifier. This sounded very good even compared to my X5 which has B&O. 335i had HiFi option which has a big benefit, i mean the audio signal to original amplifier is a line level signal. This setup could work well in x5 as well. I kept the back seat speakers stock as I use to bias the audio to front speakers.

Oh it sounds good. Did you also upgrade the current amplifier in your 335? How about the front middle speakers? Did you also upgrade it?

Thanks

Anyone know if you can upgrade the number of speakers from Hi-Fi to HK? Is the wiring already there or would this require a lot of work?

baubaulu , I suggest to go with BavSound speakers set with BimmerTech amp upgrade.

Ferg , You can, mostly you will need a new enclosure or covers for the rear doors and rear D pillars.
While wiring, I believe there are none on the D pillars.
Best way is to do BavSound with BimmerTech amp as I mentioned above.

Had B&O in my 2014, blutooth sounded bad kinda quiet, in 2017 with B&O and Carplay it sounds amazing.

That?s odd, highly doubt NBT to NBT Evo would make a difference in sound quality.

NBT and NBT EVO just the software.
The hardware themselves (speakers and amp) are still the same.

Hope you have a car to test beacuse it is true without placebo effecylt. I listen FLAC files mostly and on the 2014 F15 would hook up iphone via USB for better sound. Blutooth as I said was quite poor quality. Apple CarPlay sounds pretty amazing.

I had NBT on my ?16 F06 650GC w/ HK and have NBT EVO on my ?17 G30 540 w/ HK.
Tested FLAC before and after BavSound speaker upgrade. They all sound the same. The only difference, due to new enclosure design, the G30 with NBT EVO have better bass.

I wanted to pointed out that FLAC sounds the same on both cars, F15 2014 blutooth vs F15 2017AppleCarplay does not sound the same. Why? Have no clue.

Oh, that I don't know.
I wouldn't play FLAC wirelessly. It defeat the purpose IMO.
I uses USB thumbdrive to play FLAC.
AFAIK, wireless connection, especially Bluetooth, there is limitation.

Ok confusin again i must be confusing, i only mentioned FLAC which i play via USB as a comparison, FLAC via USB sounds the same on 2014 and 2017. Now, when i purchased 2014 and tried blutooth wireless music from my iphone it sounded pretty bad. For 2017 model with enabled CarPlay the music from iphone sounds pretty good. In conclusion I am very surprised how good the sound is via AppleCarplay (wireless).
