black kidney grille OEM

my dealer just quoted me $200 parts, $325 labor????

are you kidding me? should it really take that long to swap out 1 part that is clipped in by plastic??

Searched around for some DIY in the forum, almost eery post is a different method. Is this a super easy DIY? $325 seems insane.

Its a MY18 in case there's been any changes...

That’s insane, my dealer swapped them for free.

i can't even imagine an hour. I would have paid the hour of labor to have it installed when i picked it up. $325 install fees just seem like a strait rip off.

Mate, make it easy on yourself: just cut the old grille out and install the new one. Done, and it'll take you less than 15 minutes.

it seems so "plug and play", but some of the post on here people are removing the entire front bumper...

i can't imagine it is that hard/big of a job. one thread will show to just pull it strait out, the next shows taking off the entire front bumper.

The most frustrating part undoing all the clips. I actually bought some tools for it, and it made it a breeze. You don't need to take off the bumper; just undo it a little bit and pull back the cover. I wouldn't just rip them out.

But seriously, if you don't care about your current grille, just cut the slats out. You'll be done in a few minutes.

dealer in my area had 26% off, so they came to like $150 for the parts. I'm just gonna try to install myself. Seems like it should be super easy.

It's amazing what these dealers think they can get away with.

wtf $325! Absolute rip off. Takes like 15 mins, or even quicker if you don't mind breaking a couple of clips and yanking it out.

Yeah, DIY. It just take half hour, but you need to be careful and do not break the grille.

My local Infiniti dealership once tried to charge me $95 for "Floormat Installation".

It's fairly easy to do as others have said. Buy the grills from getbmwparts.com as it's fairly cheap. Use the new grills to figure out where the clips are so you can get at them more directly. Use the videos online to get an idea of out to take them out.

This job was left for the master tech to perform; hence the hefty charge.

I ripped mines out too. New ones slide in like butter.
Don't waste your time with the original ones, they're worthless.

My dealership was going to charge me $425 for a cracked fog light. I bought a new one on line for $130 and it took less than one minute to install. They were charging about $200 labour on top of their own bulb cost quote.

I always do my own front grills. The x5 was the hardest one that I've done over the years of BMWs but I'd def DIY for $325.
