Is this true?

In my last car (2015 428GC), when I turned off and exited the vehicle, the radio would stay on for a while and turn off automatically after a few minutes. It always frustrated me that my other vehicles acted differently, the radio turned off as soon as I opened the door after turning off the vehicle. In my new 2018 X5, the radio turns off when I open the driver door. Is there a place in iDrive that I can change that behavior? I would like the radio to keep playing until I lock the car.

My '17 40e and 35d turns off the minute I open the driver door. 2017 740e we had...radio kept playing and turned itself off. Strange that BMW models act differently.

Also, our new '17 M6....it still has the old BMW double pull the door handle to unlock! X5 does not seem to have this. Again, strange!

You should be able to code it. Mine stays on until I lock the car but I think I recall seeing an option to code it to turn off when the door is open.

I haven't tried to see how long it takes to shut off, I just always press the start button twice to shut it down right away. :dunno:

That's the behavior I want -- to stay on until I lock the car. I listen to the radio while unloading my car.

2017-2018 have option in IDrive. But, either way, it can be coded to stay on or turn off for desired preference.
