Intro from Nashville

Just made the switch from years of Audi ownership to BMW, also long time poster on the Quattroworld.

Been wanting an X5 for a long time. Just bought a CPO '15 35i M-Sport. Waiting patiently for it to be hauled down to me. Got the car for $41k CPO, 2015 with 43k miles. Carbon Black, Dakota Black interior. Although the third row is tight, it's what made me jump on this one (need to haul 4 kids on occasion).

It's missing a few things I would have liked such as HK, DHP, but otherwise most of the other bells and whistles. Nothing some mods can't fix, looking to install:

Black Dual Slat Grille
Reflector deletes
Eibach Springs and Links
MPPK or RaceChip
BAVSound speakers
Bimmertech Amp
20" or 21" wheels with non-run flats (although concerned since I do not have a spare)

Anyone else in the Nashville area?

Congrats! Let's see some photos. I fitted 21" wheels also and ditched the run flat tires. You can buy a spare separately.

Thanks! Dealer pictures weren't great, will post some pics once I get the car!

As for the spare, not an option since I have the third row.

I'm in the Nashville area and I have the following mods:

Black Dual Slat Grill
MPPK
Fender Retrofit

I'm hoping to get the MPE soon and paint the exhaust tips black. I got everything (except MPPK) from Ben at RGSport and I recommend you do the same.

Welcome. I too am about to make the leap to BMW after a string of Audi’s. I reckon I have about 4 weeks to go now.

Nice! Appears you are a fellow Scot too. I'm just living on the wrong side of the pond.

Indeed, and somewhat of a rarity on this forum too. Enjoy the car, sounds like a cracker.

Congrats on your X5. We also have an Audi Q5 (my Wife's) and my X5.

Whenever I drive her car even though its smaller it has a heavy plushy Mercedes feel to it which is what she was looking for.

On the other hand my X5 even being larger yet it handles so much more nimble.
I tend fly around town like I'm driving a tight sports car, yet its still a decent sized SUV.

BMW really does make "the ultimate driving machine"

Been to Nashville a few years ago. Cool town. We liked walking from bar to bar and hearing live music at each. Stayed at the Gaylord. We have stayed at other Gaylord properties around the country too. Great hotel chain.
How many hotels have rivers running through them!

Smart choice, I regret not going with 3rd row and retrofit of 3rd row costs more than a car itself

HK is overrated anyway, so if you go with BAVSound - you are in for a good start! DHP is a killer in x5, but it somewhat will be remediated with Eibach springs (it still won't be as good, but at least it will be halfway there). However, DHP is almost impossible to find in CPO cars, so there are 99% of us here who still regret not getting it

Imagine yourself 1 year later, what advise you will give yourself if you were looking at this post? I bet you will say I wish I went with 21 instead of 20 Learn on my costly mistakes and if you are like some of us who thinks wheels make or brake car appearance - don't skip on size, trust me even 21s often look not enough in those huge x5 arches (but with Eibach lowering they will fit just perfect)

As somebody who also believes that wheels can make or break a car, I just wanted to offer a slightly different point of view...

I "upgraded" my wheels from the stock (20") 469M. I had my mind set on OEMs and strongly considered (21") 599M and (21") 612M but after months of comparing, I ultimately decided on the (20") 611M and had to scour the country to find a set, they were not cheap. I just really liked the pattern / details of the 611s and the way they looked on the X5, there was something about the proportions that just resonated with me. Here I am nearly a year later and I have no regrets, none at all.

I honestly don't look at it as a skimp, there are advantages and disadvantages to each. I personally do not like how tiny the sidewalls are on 21" wheels, much less 22" wheels for an SUV, I also think that the X5 starts to look more like a car (think VW GTI (not necessarily a bad thing)) and less like an SUV with most 22" wheels, especially when lowered. I am sure that there are many here who would disagree with me but in the end you have to go with what you like the best.

Appreciate all the insights and opinions on wheel size, to each their own of course. I do agree, that 21" and most certainly 22" reduce sidewall scale too much, plus the increased risk for a bent rim. I'm gonna live with the 19" for a minute, do some picture searches, and make a call this summer. I'll work on the other mods first

Also, thanks for the welcome all.

Ah yes, for some reason when you said fender trim, my mind was thinking more towards the actual wheel arch and flare trim.

I've seen these, they look great on the white cars that I have seen, not so sure it is noticeable or an improvement on the carbon black...

You're right. I would only consider it if you did the carbon fiber. I recently went from a black sapphire X5 to mineral white and it's definitely a must on a white car (I didn't have it on the black one).

Congrats, and welcome. That seems like a great deal (I paid quite a bit more than that for my '14 two years ago). I'm in the Nashville area also... here's mine. Sapphire Black/Black interior, V8, MSport, etc...

Thanks Beans! I've really enjoyed it. It's my 8th or 9th BMW (all 3 series or X5's) and it's my favorite so far. When you go to BMW of Nashville for service ask for Karen and tell her I recommended her to you.

Honestly if I were you I'd be glad I didn't get the HK. I had the HK in one of my F30 335i's and the BavSound and Bimmertech amp on my second F30. The aftermarket setup sounded quite a bit better in my opinion. The other thing is that it's much easier to upgrade the base sound system as opposed to the HK.
