How come 2018 x5 did not get gesture control?

Hi,

Not a big deal, but just wondering why 2018 x5 did not get gesture control when even x3 and other new cars have it.

Was there a reason?

Serious question, what is it about gesture control that you find appealing?

I understand the value of having volume control and voice control on the steering wheel but I just don't see the value in gesture control.

Honestly Gesture Control is a TOTAL GIMMICK. In our 2017 740e, it works maybe 50-60% of the time, and many times during normal conversation in the car, if one uses their hands during talking....the car picks it up. In our 35d, I can almost always do whatever was attempted with Gesture Control insanely faster, than trying to "gesture" it in the 740e.

If Gesture Control was a stand alone option, I would never, never order it again!

Can you turn it off/disable it?

It received iDrive 6.

Given that the 2018 F15 is the last year of production it is not surprising that there were not any big updates. The G05 will gain all the latest and greatest technology.

I would call it a semi-cool party trick. I cannot tell you how many times we attempted to "show it off" and ended up just waving our hands around, twirling our finger in a clockwise or counterwise movement trying to get gesture control to work....when in a second, you could have just used a button, knob or iDrive!

Honestly, I HATE gesture control!
