Upgrading to BMW 20" wheel Style 491 without fender flares?

Has anyone seen an F15 X5 with upgraded wheels without the fender flares?

I got the basic 19" 449's and just the plain fender flare. I wonder if it will look weird or too aggressive without the fender flares meant for 20" and 21" BMW wheels

Thank you

As you can see the wheels stick out or line up which is not how its supposed to look. BMW requires the flares for 20/21 wheels and it looks much better with them. also with the wider tires and the more aggressive angle it looks much nicer.

its a cheap part so why not get it?

It's also a legal issue in some states that don't allow the tire to stick out past a certain point (or at all in some cases).

It does not look too bad without flare as it does not "stick" out a lot

My car did not have flares and after I installed 20" I replaced the original wheel arches to flared once, looks much better now. Cost me about $550.

There's also an option to go with 20" square setup with 275/40 R20 tires.

i don't think the tires should stick out beyond the widest part of the flares. it looks like it does but hard to tell.

did you just order it from your dealer and install yourself? Prices i've seen seem to range up to almost $1000 for all 4 flares.

based on other similar offerings on ebay, id be worried that the "2014" wheel flares they are referring to are for e70. see for eg this which looks very similar and is priced similarly: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Wheel-Wel...item2c9b83123c

Don't put fleaBay flares from Hong Kong on your car.

I bought them from dealer and installed myself. Took me a couple of hours. Not very easy but not difficult, if you handy you can do it. My advice : Do not buy not original flares

I just noticed you have x-line, so make sure to mention it to the dealer.

With the square set up VMR's with OEM fenders. On X5's without fenders my set up would be really aggressive with the lower offsets in the rear (25)

I swapped the flares on my 2014. It cost me about $800 for the flares and painting, the xline non-painted flares are cheaper. Once you have all the parts, you can swap everything in about 2 hours.

I found the front flares to be much more difficult than the rear to remove due to the flexing of the composite front fenders.

Parts needed for painted flares are 51777378581, 51777378582, 51777378583, 51777378584 plus a bunch of plastic rivets. I found the flares cheapest at ecs tuning and the hardware at my local dealer.

BMW says it's a requirement, but is it really? I kind of like the non-flared look, so do the flares actually provide some other function, such as chip/stone guard? Because at the "9 and 3 o'clock" positions, they appear to level out to meet the car body the same way the non-flared trims provide.

i think its a law that applies to all vehicles....the tire cant stick out past the fender.
