Does yours look big!

Having just got back from Naples Florida, I was keeping a close eye on all your modified X5s in the State. Must say saw a lot less X5s than in the UK
One thing I have observed in the US, is that the X5 does appear smaller, especially against a lot of your big V8 SUVs and 4x4s.
In the UK we don't have these big petrol guzzlers (due to high fuel prices) however the X5 does seem to stand out more in the crowd of other 4x4 vehicles.

It's true. The X5 here in the states does look smaller than most. I even think the Benz equivalents (GLE series) look a lot bigger and beefier...

You will probably see more X5's and BMW in general in more populated areas such as NYC/LA/Chicago etc. On any given day I see about oh 20 +/- BMW's about 50% of them being X5's.

I think the X5 is a perfect size, can truly sit 3 in the back seat but isn't a monster SUV (SAV, excuse me). Of course now that I have a X5 I see more of them on the road.

In US, the X5 is considered a "mid-sized" suv. There's another 2 classes of SUVs larger than the X5, the full size and extend wheelbase

They definitely don't stand out here in Texas, and mostly driven by the ladies (including my wife).

Okay I will be serious now. Many people where I live mistaken my x5 to be a mini van. That is big compared to all the vehicles (we live in truck country of Canada) that are out on the roads.

I'll bet you don't see a lot of these in the UK. The X5 looks like a compact car next to these, and they are everywhere in the US! Especially in the South.

Exactly what I mean:
Your big boy's toys are very common in your country but nowhere to be seen in the UK
All down to your lower tax on new car and your extremely cheap fuel.
However not good on the environment

My 35i gets roughly 18.5 mpg. I don't think the other vehicles you see in that photo do that much worse. Plus, they run on 87 as opposed to 93. So they're all equally as "bad" on the environment in the real world.

I believe the phrase "environmentally friendly" has been banned by the state of Texas.

I think it also has something to do with the size of European streets and roads. Many roads are basically the same size they were a hundred or more years ago when they weren't much more than cart paths. Buildings were built and land ownership was based on the narrow width of these roads and still carries over today. Europeans who visit the US, especially out west, are always amazed at the sheer expanse of the land. Since most of the roads, streets and highways were laid out after the car was invented instead of before, with buildings and land ownership developing alongside, it's just inherently built to accommodate bigger vehicles. I haven't driven in the UK, but I have in Germany, France, Austria and The Netherlands. Our large pickups would encounter a lot of roads, streets and parking spaces they simply could not use.

One of these things is not like the others,
One of these things doesn't belong,
Can you tell which thing is not like the others
By the time I finish my song?
