2018 Wifi Hotspot

I am looking into the hotspot option in a new build. Is the wifi hotspot 3g or 4g? Who runs it (ATT, Verizon, etc)? Also, what is the cost?

Its a eSIM connected to AT&T service, prepaid plan is $20/month. Anyone know how to change the eSIM to T-Mobile? Both are GSM carriers and use the same bands.

besides having a hotspot in your car, does this provide any other connected functions for the car itself?

No additional features. It's really so passengers without cellular enabled devices (ie iPad WiFi only) to have data. So many phone plans now include unlimited data though, that it's sort of unnecessary. Just turn the Hotspot on your iPhone or Android "on".

This^^. I had a free 3-month trial, and after trial was off, i did not bother to continue. Turning on hot spot on the phone does exactly the same.

The process for activation needs to be streamlined. At one point I was bouncing back and forth between BMW and AT&T for instructions to start my trial subscription. I finally found someone at AT&T who could help me. I'm not sure they've trained most of their customer service reps adequately. Three months later I called to renew the subscription and had a similar experience. I gave up and decided I could live without it.
