Honestly its just the newer headlamps and interior is all I am seeing with the new X5. Not really worth moving over to the next platform.
And lets be clear, the new X5 is not a step up, more of a step in the right direction.

Just the opposite for us...we bought our E70 3 weeks ago because we didn't like what we saw coming with the F15. Basically, my wife hated the iPad style nav screen and the outside appearance just did not look as cohesive as the E70.

Palbay - hope you don't mind - pasting some of your pics from another post here.
These are the best comparison pics I reckon. Confirmed for me that I made the right choice buying the 2013 E70 (exactly same colour/trim/wheels as this one) after seeing early pics of the F15. E70 looks like everything just fits together no questions asked. Back of F15 looks awkward/boxy. Top of F15 bonnet looks squashed/ a bit flat - done in an effort to try and make the car look more streamlined, but then met by a very upright cadillac type grill. A real mish mash. Compare this with the natural flow of the E70 bonnet which works well in proportion to the rest of the car. So - no remorse here. Would have been patient and waited if they had done what everyone had been hoping for - a genuinely exciting update - not a confused bunch of ideas that look like design by committee or maybe just a bad senior designer who managed to blag it (has to be more streamlined, has to have more status with the grille, has to be more like rest of family design cues - i.e. the back) Last edited by XZeb; 08-05-2013 at 04:53 PM.. |

I'm not sure that it has been covered on this board, but this isn't an entirely new vehicle. The F01/F10/etc. architecture was apparently deemed unsuitable for the F15, probably because it has resulted in such bloated vehicles. They went with an updated E70 architecture, which goes along way towards explaining the similar dimensions, side profile, etc. This has been covered on other forums, and isn't fully substantiated, but it certainly looks like an evolution of the E70 rather than based on the newer architecture.
I'm not unhappy with this, as I was hoping the X5 would shed some weight instead of suffering from the bloat of the 5 and 7, and I think my '11 35d holds its own against the '13 models fairly well. Hopefully the new 35d has lost a similar amount of weight as the 35i/50i, and I'm certain that the newer engine and 8 speed will improve the efficiency and performance. The only aspect of the looks that still bothers me a bit is the rear window and Aero Blades, which just don't look right in the pictures. This will likely look better in the metal, as most BMWs of late tend to do. |

But either way, Nav, moonroof, things like this standard? That's not "optioning out" like Porsche does.. Far from it. That was really the comment I was responding to. But even to all the comments about the higher price tag, I'm just saying price one out before you assume that's true. I assumed it was until I built one and realized for what I want, it could actually be cheaper, since I can now skip some options I wouldn't want. |

Haven't played much with the pricing. But seemed if wanted a dark headliner like my
sport active I had to go with a M spec. Also wanted auto dimming so had to go with a $1,900 pkg. In the end it was about 5K more and not a diesel. Could have made a cheaper one, but like the one have, has all the goodies except cold weather, so tried to make a 14 similar. |

remember the cyclops rear end of the E65 7 series? these connected lights to kidney grille reminds me of that blunder E70 X5 with new F interior would have been right answer. New body is lame in the back and ugly in the front. And more expensive btw. |

This headlight connection to the grill needs to stop. It's horrible. The grills are impossibly too big for some of the new models. It doesn't flow. That and the more vertical front end of everything new they have designed. It's bad. It's so bad.
I do like the side mirrors on the F15 X5 though.

it doesn't flow because its design was meant for a low riding sports car not a 5000 lb SUV. Its like trying to add sleekness while at the same time turning the front end into vertical semi-truck look. RR sport, Cayenne, etc are MORE (visually) aerodynamic in the front vs. outgoing models. Why BMW is going in opposite direction i don't get.

Give me the F15 INTERIOR with the E70 M package EXTERIOR with some fat lady tires ... and I'm happy as a pig in wet mud.
