Wheel corrosion on 17' CPO 35D

Purchased a CPO 17 35D this week. Bought remotely from Huston TX and had it shipped to California. When inspecting the X5 for the first time in person I noticed the front left wheel had corrosion and delamination around the center hub.

The dealer never made mention of that during any conversations before buying, was not shown to me in video walk arounds or noted in the CPO check list. (Yes I know there is risk when buying without first inspecting yourself but I am a glass half full guy and trusted the CPO process too much)

I contacted my SA about it and was told "it's normal, happens on all BMWs and cannot be fixed".... essentially she couldn't help.

What are my options? It's still under a year of the factory warranty and then another year of CPO.

I don't think it's normal for an OEM wheel, it's possible the previous owner replaced the original wheels with replicas?
I'm on my 3rd CPO BMW and never had this happen.

Any advice on who to take this up with? Original dealer in Texas, a local Cali dealer or BMW NA. First time owner here.

My front wheels were corroded and refinished by my dealer under warranty no questions asked but I've known my SA for 5+ years. Before you hit up BMW NA I'd call a few local dealers and ask if they would cover considering going to texas where you originally purchased is out of the question.

Probably used hard wheel cleaner that slowly eat away finish.

Is it still under factory warranty? If so, take it to your local dealer and see if they can help.

Yep, has about a year left on the Factory warranty. I'll call some local service departments Monday. Don't think the dealer I bought from will be much help.

Yeah take to dealer. Worst case if they don't help, you can have a mobile wheel repair outfit fix for around $100.

Bring the car to any BMW dealership. They should fix/replace them under warranty. I got a replacement set 2 years ago and still corroded so it will continue to happen.

Nah, it’s under the finish - the finish is intact. And in my case - I use only BMW wheel cleaner

It appears to be the dreaded BMW 469M wheel corrosion issue. There is a lengthy in-depth thread on here that covers this exact issue and many different ways to resolve it with BMW.
Best of luck!

My 2015 looks the exact same on all 4 wheels. I asked my SA if it could be covered under CPO... no dice. They did offer a re-finish price of $180 per wheel. ugh...

Any idea why the BMW dealer who sold the car as CPO would not have replaced it before putting it up for sale? I'm going to call some
Local Cali dealers today and see what they can do.

CPO has alot of restrictions when it comes to warranty work any wear and tear common failures such as corroding wheels, control arms, driver seat cover wrinkle/tear won't be covered along with squeaks and rattles unless you still have factory warranty intact but its possible to have it repaired out of good will. Correct 150-180$ is the going rate for a refinish as they send out the wheels to another shop which probably charges half the price while dealer makes there own profit.

Talk to the service manager nicely to have them file through the 4 year warranty for replacement. It is a quality issue so they will honor it. There are several successful cases shared on this forum, including mine.

CPO inspection varies across dealerships. Some would do a full blown inspection and changes/replace parts. Some just register the vehicle as CPOed and list online. Buyer still need to do their own vehicle inspection as they buy any other used cars.
