Some countries have been using the similar tech like Apple Pay for 10-years... Wish Apple can really make something happen this time... |

My key looks like that too. I've never dropped it and only had the X5 since september. Key stays in the car in the slot behind the shifter or in my pocket. The BMW logo is chipping like crazy.

I noticed that the X5 key fobs do not have a button to flick the front and rear lights on. My F10 has a button that will enable the lights to turn on when you are in range.
Can you do this with the X5? |

I guess that button is for the welcome lights? For simply locating the car, the unlock and lock button just fine to have the lights come on and unlock and lock the car. There is a way to reprogram the 3rd and 4th buttons with short, middle, and long holds to enable the welcome lights (I guess that's what you are referring to). I'm still working on the exact coding changes for this. We did figure out how to stop the trunk delay timing from 5 seconds (where the trunk button has to think about the action you just told it to perform) to 0 seconds (instantly the way it should have come from factory).

I may have to add this to the list of coding I need to look at then. It is quite a handy function for me for locating the car in a car park or warning people away if they are looking in without opening the car. I know that the 4 series loaner that I have at the moment does not have this function either. |

There are a lot of codes that have yet to be discovered or understood.

It's a USB drive, it's solid metal, really heavy, possibly as heavy as the actual keyfob if not heavier.
It came in a package "Thank You from BMW"

Yeah, although I am not planning on plugging this and letting BMW infect my PC. I believe it just has a copy of the website in there.

I got one of these for a previous X5 but the store space was so small and the device so heavy that I never used it.

I bought one of those cheap silicone covers from ebay (see post #4). Fits nice and snug. So far it has taken one drop in a puddle of water quite well.
