Drive to 80mph, slams on brake, it's solved for a week. Otherwise you dealer can sand down the rotors and pads, which could help too.

Let me be more clear. Fattmatts advice about not slamming on the brakes is WRONG and clueless. These brakes can withstand track abuse. Most here will only drive their M on the street and the brakes should handle anything that you could sanely throw at them on the street. Slam them at 100 mph and your rotors will be fine.

Why fattmat would say this?

Experience. I have a Cayenne Turbo S with brakes and rotors that are as big if not bigger than what is on the X5M. They are also manufactured by Brembo. They can be warped. I made the mistake of listening to the same advice you've given, only it was given by a porsche dealership tech, and subsequently had my rotors replaced at dealership expense. They were also kind enough to install the aftermarket brake pads I purchased. Haven't heard a peep out of the brakes since then. Best part is, I haven't had to drive like a jackass to accomplish that.

Pads are cheap, rotors are not. My advice to fix your squealing brakes is to buy pads with less steel in them. It's an immediate fix which doesn't require one to break the law and engage in dangerous behavior. It's worth the 2-3 hours of labor you might pay to have the pads installed.

By the way, do you think it's reasonable to expect someone to do what your advocating merely to get the brakes on a $100,000 vehicle to stop squeeling? I don't. Personally, I think when you pay that much for a car, it's perfectly reasonable to expect that one can just get into the car and drive it without it sounding like freight train, but that's just my opinion. You are free to drive 100 mph and slam on the brakes as you see fit, arrivederci.

You said slamming on the brakes will ruin rotors. But I find that very unlikely to happen on the street so that's bad advice you give. Also it is unlikely on a well driven car at the track but not all can drive a car well on the track (many overuse their brakes and cause some issues). Over torqued lug nuts can contribute to rotors warping no. I'm also guessing you have an older turbo s cause the 2015+ had pccb standard. If you warp those something was definitely wrong. And it wasn't caused by slamming on them.

Noisey brakes are likely due to brake pad choice (as you said). While you also say that it is unacceptable, why did you provide different pads for your Porsche? Was that not a 100k+ vehicle too? Why didn't the dealer 'fix' it for you by providing alternate pads? So many questions. Audi says the same thing in their s cars about noisey brakes...even has a brochure to make it seem ok to people complaining. Reality is that there's a trade off for changing to different pads.

I don't think you know much more than what you read on boards or the dealer tells you. No offense intended as most people that buy 100k cars won't or don't turn wrenches on them or anything else. What I want others to understand is that slamming brakes on an x5m or car with similar brakes is no big deal. They are designed for it. Btw, brake pad install should take less than 1 hour.

You know what, I think you definitely must be right. The best solution for these squeaky pads is to drive 100 mph and slam on the brakes as hard as you can. Seems reasonable.

Reading comprehension not your forte? You said slamming the brakes will ruin the rotors. I said not true...the x5m should be fine. I also agreed with your point that changing the pads could quiet the brakes down. Wrong pads though could make them even louder.

Don't get eaten by brand name.
Brembo do OEM and not all manufacturers get the same exact setup from Brembo. Oh and rotors, a lot of car manufacturers opted to get them from different vendors, like the 2 car manufacturers that you guys are mentioning.

FYI these did not solve the problem. It may have actually gotten worse!

Dealer says they will install aftermarket pads for me, so now the hunt begins.

I don't know, but I'm going to replace them all so they match (and are hopefully all silent.)

I ordered the full set of Disc Italia ceramics. Will lose a bit of braking power but a) I don't track my car or drive it super aggressively often, and b) I'm happy to trade that for less dust and squeal.

Will report back my results in a couple of weeks once they are installed.

My brakes don't really squeal when the roads are wet. As soon as they dry off, the pain returns!
