If I had to do this on my own it would likely take 3 hours and I would break clips and scratch stuff

About taking it in for service

I am going to take it for regular service with map 0 on (JB4 off) and disconnect the BCM from OBD2 but I wouldn't take the entire thing off unless I had a big issue with the car and I wanted to avoid senseless finger pointing (or interfering with the technicians diagnosing work).

If, for example, I blow a turbo I would be honest about having a piggyback and leave it at BMWs discretion to cover it or not; "You play, you pay".

I had an APR stage 3 VW Jetta 2003 back in the day and the tranny blew after 3 years. I was totally honest with the dealer and they replaced it on warranty anyway. Not saying this would always be the case but I would recommend being honest and accountable for one's actions.

After all, misrepresenting the facts (the existence of mods) to gain a financial advantage (the repairs and parts) constitutes fraud to some extent and in most jurisdictions.
Glad to hear you're loving the JB4, like the rest of us! These trucks are putting down some serious power now. All we need now is back end flash to dial them in properly. When tuners do release back end flashes, ill be on that. Then ill be done with modding the truck.

Damn it, wanted to disable ASD via dash. Should we ask Terry to restore the old map control via volume switch?

Interestingly, I own a cyber security firm and I am not comfortable with the total lack of security in the Bluetooth kit.

I don't want someone pushing bad settings on my vehicle under any circumstance.

I would, however, appreciate it if the vendor just allowed the app to function wired to the phone. USB to lightning and USB to micro-USB adapters are cheap... and secure.

Wouldnt someone need to have the JB4 app to make changes?

I get it, you want 100% security, im trying to be realistic here.

You don't need the jb4 app. It's just a serial connection emulated over Bluetooth.

The jb4 app would be useful to someone that cares about what they are doing.

Anyone with a Bluetooth enabled computer can "dabble" (we call it fuzzing) to figure out what this interface does and cause you a lot of grief in the process. We don't even know if the JB4 limits the input values based on its firmware or if it's limited in the interface.

I'm not going for 100% security, it's just I know enough about this technology to be much more aware of the risks and vulnerabilities involved.

The kit is relatively easy to install if you know what you are doing

There are 4 connections and 2 stray wires.

2 plugs for tmap under the intercoolers (any piggy back on the market uses these two plugs, it allows for 3psi over stock)

2 plugs for electronic wastegates and BCM (required for 20+ psi applications)

One ground for BCM, and one plug for OBD wedge for canbus.

Changing maps can not be done on the BC Button like every other jb4 but in time we'll figure that out. Boost on fuel gauge is live tested and working for me for months. I daily the car in map 2 (22psi) and yes have dyno'd the car. It is north of 800bhp but for the time being I won't post numbers as we're still playing with it.

Map 7 can be run with 100+ octane @ 25psi

Car is a rocket now, have videos against e55s, e63, gtrs. She holds her own. If anyone wants to pm me I'm more than happy to provide install instructions (without removing intercooler like needed for m5) as well as answer any questions. Been running it 3 months and 8000 miles so far so good!

Install for a new timer is roughly 2 hours. I can have it in or out in 30 minutes so once you do it once you'll realize the simplicity!
Great info--thanks.

My JB4+BCM is being installed as I type into my wife's X5M.

I have a few questions:
1 Did you have any issues specific to installing it that would be good for me to know?
2. Did you ever get the in-car control working (via the BC button I mean)?

Thanks.

No issues other than BC interface not working.

Correct. The in car controls do not work as JB4 is in the beta stage for this car still.

Hope everyone is enjoying their extra power

You'll need BCM if you want to even run anything besides Map 1, i think. Everyone on here has BCM so i'd just get it.

But the thing is i dont think pump 91 can run anything but map 1
Any of you run pump 91 here with bcm?? And remember to check your charges pipes, i think almost all jb4 users have those upgraded cuz they plastic and crack real easy. Didn't find any aftermarket ones for f85/86 yet

All I have to say is I just installed JB4 with BCM & Bluetooth, Active Autowerke catless downpipes, BMC filters and its BAD ASS!!! A lot faster, wish it came from the factory this fast. Sounds great too with stock muffler, sounds like a mix of an F80 and F10 M5 exhaust note. Had some issues on MAP2 93octane breaking up in higher rpms so I'm just running MAP1 - 20lbs for now and its great, I am going to get it to the dyno soon with race gas for Map 7 - Also I installed it myself, hardest part is getting to EPDW connectors under bank 1 intercooler for the BCM. I have never installed one in an F85 and took me a little over an hour.
