X5M/X6M Poll - Who has wheel bearing/floating rotor clicks?

The X5M/X6M clicking sound is getting out of control. Already wasted too much time dealing with this. A $100k+ car should not sound like this.

8k miles - spacer mod installed, click went away for 2k miles
12k miles - rotors, pads, calipers, and hub replaced
14k miles - clicking is back, louder than ever

BMW NA says it's "normal." I'm already bitter by BMW NA saying my last F10 M5 burning 3-4qt of oil ever 1k miles is normal.

This is a thread to get a unique head count on who is having issues with the wheel clicks? Those who responded no, please report your ODO reading (aka how many miles you have).

I took a video of my clicking issue today, turn up the volume.

What should I answer ? Yes or no ?

I had the clicking since the first day , then it disappeared (without any fix).
My car is now over 50'000 km and no clicking noise.

Started noticing it around 8k miles (currently 10.5k). Took the car into the dealer. Their response was this is normal for this model. They said they drove a brand new X5M they had in the show room and it had the same problem.

That's like Porsche saying yes we know your 991 GT3 caught on fire, they all do.

I agree it's an unacceptable quality control issue on a $100k+ car.

  • Initial issue started around 1200 miles; was told normal (floating rotors, normal BMW brakes, blah, blah, blah) - being new to BMW, took the service rep for face value
  • At ~6000 miles, sound became too loud to ignore; service rep awk'd issue existed
  • First attempt at fix: spacers (left and right) - sound continued; service rep acted immediately to move to next remedy
  • Second attempt at fix: wheel hub replacements (left and right) - sound eliminated
  • At ~8000 miles, sound began to return - very faint
  • Now at ~10k miles; clicking sound clear when turning wheel (left or right) anything past half-clock

Same here, with minor variations to mileage. Currently at 13,000 for a 2016 X5 M delivered 12/1/2015.

First stated fix was to remove and relube. Clicking returned within 500 miles.

Second fix of total wheel hub replacement around 9,000 miles. Curiously, I thought the clicking returned immediately, but then it disappeared completely. Been quiet since this fix or rather I get a sporadic (but not able to be duplicated) clicking on extreme turns (e.g., some parking structures).

FWIW, I have also switched from Comfort steering to Sport since the last fix.

NO

Just voted NO.

2015 X5M 6700 Miles, have had it for a little over a year now and nothing. I'm the only house in a cul-de-sac so I've done several 'tests' if you can call it that with the wheel hard over going in circles, then hard over to the other direction at different speeds and nothing.

I know in the other post there were comments on the different driving modes etc...

With my driving being 95%+ expressway and my daily commuter 20 miles door to door (40 miles round trip), I always drive in Comfort Mode.

The only thing I've noticed is some day's when I'm in a hurry and trying to get to the expressway before the heavy rush, I'll be a little quick accelerating from a Stop, either turning left or right and have more felt vs. heard what feels like the rear axle making a very slight binding noise, almost like if you had a vehicle with a rear locker on dry pavement.

But even with that, when I've tried to duplicate it, I can't, but I've had it do it when the car is cold (mile from home) or fully warmed up (after driving 20 miles at 75)...?

Needless to say, keeping an eye (and ear on this) to see if anything crops up.

Actually taking it into the dealer this morning for an Oil Change and mentioned something to the Service Writer when I made the appointment so it'll be interesting to see what they say as I plan to ask them about this.

Zero clicking noise, 25.000 km (~15.600 mi).
Mixed autobahn / mountain driving, some 3.000 km towing a 3.000 lbs trailer.

2017 X5M in WA state. 1833 miles, have not had this issue so far. I have the 21 inch wheels. My commute is 6.1 miles one way and is 95%-100% city/local streets (5% variance depends on what route I take). Usually do 1st half of drive on efficient/comfort/comfort/D1 until the car warms up. Then do rest of commute in either sport/comfort/comfort/D2 or sport/comfort/sport/D2. Now that winter is coming, I'll be driving to the mountains every weekend which will be 87.9 miles one way. Expect that to be done mostly in sport/sport/sport/D3 or sport plus/sport/sport plus/S3.

Noticed mine around 10K miles. I cannot hear it in the cabin, only when i wind the window down. The dealer "fixed" it but came back within 100 miles. Now it happens more when turning right vs turning left. Haven't had time to take it back.
