Lightbulb Help. Dealershpi wants me to register my X5 a month early.

Hey All

I'm about to take delivery of a new X5 and the dealer has called to say that although its status is "at sea" it should arrive in the country before the end of September and be available for pick up around the 6th October. They've asked that I help with their quarterly figures by allowing them to register the car immediately instead of in October when I collect it and that if I do that they'll sort me out with a full tank of diesel etc as a thank you.

My question is, is there a disadvantage to me for registering the car a month earlier than I need to as I'm happy to help them if there's no down side? Will it effect the depreciation and if so by how much (I'm purchasing through a PCP deal)?

Thanks

Kenny.

Hi Kenny,

Your warranty will also expire one month earlier than it should. For the depreciation value, I believe it will somehow be affected but not so much.

ps. Your dealer has to fill up the tank prior to the delivery even though you don't do them a favor. It's one of the Checklist items prior to delivery.

So your options would be:
1: Ask for more freebies
2: Refuse their request

Smile

Thanks Ray. They did say they'd be happy to come to an agreement about the compensation but grateful for the heads up on the tank of fuel issue.

I would not... you need to make sure your X5 is in all working condition as well.
Never sign anything until you are fully satisfied with your X5 and you can not do that until the car is physically there with you....

Cars get damaged during transport. On occasion, they leave the factory with paint, leather, and other blemishes. There are threads on this board where someone noticed after months that the panel on a rear door was not leather as the package required.

There is nothing in it for you.

Why assist them to window-dress? They are circumventing or gaming something accounting related or quota related for sales. You can turn a blind eye at some price. Perhaps extended warranty by three years.

Agree. Don't do anything until you take delivery and have time to inspect the vehicle.

Take delivery first and make sure the car is right.

Them making thir number this quarter means nothing to them. Tell them if the car is deliverable this quarter, you'll take it. Otherwise, your car will count toward their quota and whatever spiff is being run next quarter.
