Possible Winter Wheel--Thoughts?

I'm debating between these Rial wheels for my ordered Space Gray MSport. I know...I know, the smaller the wheel the better in snow, but my winter driving needs will likely never see deep snow and I have the advantage of not having to go out in the mess.

I like the titanium finish, but my wife (whose car it is) doesn't really like darker wheels. In fact I don't think she is crazy with the design all together. I think they look great and Rial is a credible company and these are manufactured in Poland as oppose to China (although knock on wood I have never had any problems with my China made winter rims). I also believe Rial in OEM
So which do you think will look better on a Space Gray MSport?

The titanium with your space grey for sure! It reminds me of a modified 491 wheel we recently discussed. Stick a BMW center cap in there and you have the OEM look with a custom finish.

Agree on titanium finish. I have the Rial Salerno rims for a winter set on my 335i and they have surprising held up well. 4 winters and some serious potholes here in the mid atlantic and none have been bent. I took them into a local race shop last month to get them balanced before winter and expected two of them to need replacing (was at least hoping as I wanted an excuse to buy different rims). All 4 were fine.

Thanks guys. Yeah, I'm definitely leaning toward the titanium finish.

Unrelated to these wheels, my only apprehension with pulling the trigger and ordering this relatively expensive setup (as oppose to an 18" setup), is I really only need a winter setup for 2 seasons. After 2 years with the crappy 20" Dunlops, they will certainly need replacing and I will end up getting the Conti's DWS for year round (this is what I did with my E70). I just hate the look of having an 18" setup for the winter months when these would look so good. I searched, but I could not find many pics of F15s with 18" winter setups to help convince me to go the less expensive route

Yeah, I know...I've been following your threads. BTW, where in Maryland are you?

Only to complicate matters more for myself, I tried convincing my wife that we should get the OEM 21" 310M and use the standard 19" MSport wheels as our "winter" setup. I explained the $4700 310Ms would really only be around $1100 when you consider we would save the $950 on the upgraded 20" wheel, space-saver spare $150, and a winter setup roughly $2500. But then she asked how much the 21" tires will eventually cost in 2yrs time and when she heard approx. $2400 when compared to the less expensive 20" Conti DWS ($1K) that was the end of the discussion
It's crazy how 22" tires are less expensive than 21"...

Thanks, man. Check your PM.

I know how you feel! I originally wanted the 21" when I first saw the 599M wheels but couldn't justify the cost for the full ~$6k price at the time (now look at me and all my mods ). The other issue like you said was the tires for 21". Companies just don't make them because it's not a popular size and that's why the companies that do make them can charge much more. This is surprising considering how many top end cars look good with their 21" OEM wheels. Even the ML63 comes with a 21" setup. The only reason I bothered to even go with 22" was not only the price but also how nice they actually fit the X5. I was thinking "what if they're too big," but thankfully this was not the case at all.

Remind me again, where you purchased your 22" replicas.
And what are the specs of everything: Wheels (offset, size) and tires?
And you don't experience any rubbing or other related problems from the 22"s...I thought I read someone here with 22" had a problem, maybe r33?

Here's my original order link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/22-BMW-X5-X6...a276db&vxp=mtr

I paid $1628 total with free shipping for the 310M replica wheels with Delinte Desertstorm D8 tires (cheap yet amazing tires made by Yokohama). The company is called wheelfactoryinc on ebay, but their store name is Wheel Plus. They are located in Cali. I spoke to Diego when I ordered. It's best to call in and order to get a better combo deal.

Wheels are 22x10 offset 40 for all 4 (non staggered). I would have gone for 22x11 offset 35 rear if I had known about staggered/non-staggered setups for 22" wheels, but this was my first order of 22s/custom rims so I just stuck to the same non-staggered setup like my 19" 449s. The tire size is 285/35R22 - really thick tread. Factory diameter is 295/30R22 non-staggered and 295/30R22 front 335/25R22 rear staggered setup. For me, I have a very comfy/protective ride on the 285/35R22. The only tiny downside is when you turn the wheels full 100% in reverse, you get slight rubbing on two pieces of front inner fender plastic. It's very tiny, so I thought, I'll just get used to turning at 97-98% instead of the full 100% and live with the better protection. They have had a piece of metal/mashed nail in the back right tire which was easily and permanently patched. I ordered an extra tire in case for $99. Overall, fantastic all-season tires. They handle great in all conditions I've been thrown in - hot, dry, humid, thunderstorms, light rain, etc. I just need to test them in the winter before going for Nokian WRG2 or R2s. Here are pics of the rubbing area I took back in April 2014 when I put these on:

Thanks buddy....but literally after just finishing reading the above and possibly getting excited about going with the standard 19" MSport wheel, no spare, blah, blah, blah...my CA just emailed me and said my order just turned over to #150! Don't get me wrong, I'm excited, but I was still trying to work my wife on this wheel situation and the exterior color!!! I love Alpine White, but she went with Space Gray. In a way, this makes all these indecisions so much more easier as I cannot change anything anyway!

Do those rials come in 19's? If so, I would go with 19's for winter (still not tiny like 18's look on the car). I would actually vote silver to contrast, but compliment the gray.. Especially of your wife doesn't like the titanium... Either would make a nice winter setup. Or look in the classified section for someone selling 467's...

Thanks Chris.
No they don't come in 19" and ironically enough, the 19" setups cost a smidge more than the 20"s.
I just heard from Gary over at TR, and he is saying the Titanium may not arrive until after 11/14, yesterday they noted 10/14--if they arrive at all. Now I'm not sure if I should go with the silver. They seem awfully bright

I think when I checked last year, there were all of 4 19" options for the F15 and 3 of them were just different colors of the same wheel lol. It was still new then but the pricing and limited options led me to just get a set of 469m's and I'll use my 467's for winter. I had ordered a set of the 19" package from BMW for only a couple hundred more than the tire rack sets but BMW stopped making them and cancelled my order.

I would take a look at the classified section, maybe you can get some take off 19's you'll like better.

Tough to say on the silver. They do seem bright in the pics but I'm sure they'll look good. Maybe someone that has had silver rials can chime in..

You're very welcome. I know how you feel. Alpine White and Space Grey are both fantastic colors. Honestly, I can't really think of a bad color that the X5 comes in....just never seen any Solid Blacks around. The Space Grey is definitely one of my favorites because of how it shines. I think your car would look really unique/stealth-like with the titanium wheels. The titanium also looks really good on Alpine White...just look at @r33's car.

@Kief,
There is no problem with 22".
If you don't plan to lower the car or staggered setting like @opasha, you may run with slightly bigger tire. The benefit, you get more distance per tire rotation and softer ride (not saying that it is rougher on my setup. ).
But, if you plan to lower and staggered setting, than my setup is the correct way to go. (Overall diameter is the same as the OEM setup and it will not rub).
As for the color, I have seen many X5 coming jn to my office with different color and options, none of them could go wrong. . It still a very nice SAV in the market for the value.

Thanks
However, now that I'm #150, I'm sticking to the 20" and will just decide on a winter set...

Nice, but $$$
They are (at least I believe) still a lot cheaper than OEM wheels.
