Lowering the rear...need help

Hey folks,

I was trying to lower the rear by taking off and adjusting the lowering link (see pic below) but I can't get it off. If I try to take off the nut, it just spins. I checked the back of it to see if there's something that I should brace as well but there's so little space back there. For those that did it, how'd you get the link off? Mine also looks beat up.... what other options are out there to replace lowering link?

I tried again and ended up cracking the plastic arm (see second pic). Now I have to see how much it cost to replace that.

Corrosion is your enemy. I’d soak those nuts for 24hours with penetrating oil before attempting to loosen them. WD40, etc.

Wow. Hahahaha. But ya those things are quite corroded. How long you had them on? Maybe consider costing them regularly in the future.

Edwin,

You actually crack the piece of the BMW sensor.
You may need to get a new sensor there.

They've been on the truck since November of 16. Although I'm in Texas, it was originally from Columbus Oh (which explains the corrosion).

Ben, yeah I already have one on order. Stupid $100 mistake. Btw, I did contact KW to see if they will warranty this part. Waiting on a response.

Don't you need to counter hold at the back of it? That's why it's just spinning as you turn it. You can find an extra thin wrench at a bicycle shop for around $40 for a full set of thin wrenches.

Absolutely right. I asked KW to give me a diagram of it and sure enough, there’s a 8mm counterhold. I ordered a set of slim wrenches which should be here Friday. I’ll try again this weekend when my new links and sensor gets here.

^correct. you need to make sure the nut does not spin inside the link housing. if you do not have a slimline wrench you can use a flathead screwdriver as well but the proper procedure would be the wrench to avoid damaging any other components.
