X5 F15 Steering Wheel Swap possible to Retrofit Steering Wheel Vibration Motor?

Interesting in swapping out my steering wheel to one with paddle shifters.

I understand I need updated coding to get the paddle shifters to work.

My question is regarding the vibration motor for the lane departure / blind spot warning, etc.

The new wheel has the heating element, but does not come with the vibration generator / motor. Is it simply swapping the motor from one steering wheel to the other? Does anyone know if I need any need any new cables or parts to make this work?

Thanks

If you are switching to a M Sport steering wheel, then you can't. The module and wiring is different.
If you are switching between the Sport steering wheel, most likely you can. I never done this.

Thanks. It's not the F15 m-sport wheel.

I was just curious if the wheel did not come optioned with the motor it would be able to be mounted/attached. Looks like they all have a space built for the motor.

Also, mine is a 2015 no line X35, does anyone know if will it have wiring for me to plug the paddle shifters into?

What wheel are you trying to put on?
No wiring to plug the paddle shifter on non paddle steering wheel.
Please be specific, otherwise no one can help you.

Thanks again for the reply.
It's a M Wheel from an X4. It's the same shape / look of the Sport Wheel (not the skinny M Sport from X5)

The problem with the X4 is you can't order the Drivers Assistance along with Cold Weather, so there is not part# for a wheel with both the motor and heating. But, it looks like the cutout where the motor goes is the same on both Steering Wheels.

So - would I need to order a new harness?
Or do any additional wiring to enable the paddles?
My Car is a no line 2015 X35i with DHP so I have the Sport+ setting

Steering Wheel Connected line for my car is listed as BMW #32306798540
Connected line for X5 sport wheel w/ paddles is listed as BMW #32306868775

X4 M-Sport w/ paddle shifters w/Heating (this is the one I want to change to and add the vibration motor)

X4 M-Sport w/ paddle shifters w/Vibration (no heating)

X5 Sport (mine does not have the paddle shifters)

gt0279a , if they are bolt up directly to the F15, then you need to get the correctly optioned steering wheel for your car. Because it seems like you can't get the motor separately, hence, it may not be take apart and moved to the other steering wheel.
Again, don't quote me on this since I never take apart the F15 non M Sport steering wheel.
You may want to give up one or the other (between the lane change assist and steering wheel heater).
Why don't you get the F15 Sport steering wheel? It has the option for heating, lane change assist, and paddle shifter.

Missing the M Sport Wheel from my 335i !

Personally do not like the look of the F15 X5 M-Sport wheel, plus I would also have to buy a new airbag.

Looks like the motor uses it's own plug like the heating element, so no need to buy a new wiring harness. It is mounted onto the wheel by two well nuts embedded into the rubber and uses two #10 fine thread 9mm long bolts with Torx 20.

Problem with the Non-Lane Departure X4 M Wheel is I would have to drill the rubber to place new well nuts to secure the motor.

Might look at the non M F15 wheel with paddles. I just would have to get it covered in Nappa leather and make it a little thicker than stock.

I believe so. It has been awhile I did a retrofit since all the later model comes with the sport steering wheel as standard.

I was able to replace my X5 sport steering wheel with the X4 M-Sport as above with heating and vibro functions, but could not get the paddle shifters to work.

Worked with ************* on the coding, appears to be a wiring issue. My X5 is a 'no line' X5 YMMV but I believe only msport and 'xline' models have the paddle shifter wiring.

I have done a steering wheel change from a std non paddle SW on my 2017 x5 to an X4 Msport as pictured in post #5. Paddle shift did not work initially as the wiring on the X3/4 is different namely the pink wire that plugs in to pin #4 on the x3/4 (bottom photo) does not on the X5.(top photo)
It goes directly from one paddle to the other from the photos I have seen on ebay. I have a very basic module diagram showing this wire does join to another adjacent wire which I have now established to be the black wire at pin #3 location.
The white wire that plugs into pin #5 is the same between the x3/4 and the x5/6

Vibration Module Install

Hi guys,

Can you tell me a little more about what you did regarding the module? Looking for a little help with a 2015 F25 that has the lane departure warning system that we're adding the M Sport (not the little airbag with the skinny 6 o'clock spoke to it) to and are having a hell of a time getting the module to fit properly. Needless to say the one from the 2016+ M Sport wheels isn't shaped properly so we need to find a way to make the round plump original one fit inside this wheel. Any insight or guidance you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Justin

Yes have a look at my thread which I started a year ago when I bought the steering wheel where I have some photos showing where I attached the pink wire to the frame of the steering wheel which is also connected to pin number 3
