BMW reports at the crank so we do as well. That way a easy comparison can be made. Most logical explanation for BMW's underrating is 2 posts above yours. We openly state in all of our data that we measured much higher numbers then BMW claims so customers do not think we are attributing those gains as our own.

If I am buying a brand new X5M, is there any reason to consider waiting until after the break in period to install the tune? Or good to go from the get go?

We have had customers go both ways. We typically encourage waiting until the break-in process is over before tuning so that if any production flaws do come to the surface there will be one less component to troubleshoot as the cause but its really entirely up to the car owner.

Am I to understand that the DinanTronics Performance Tuner app for Android devices will allow an F85 X5M Stage 1 to be remapped at any time? Essentially the Stage 1 can be turned on and off just by using the app?

Quote:
Dinan's ECU is Bluetooth® Smart meaning that you can change maps simply via a Bluetooth connection. Just install and you are done!
Quote:
Now the power of your DINANTronics Performance Tuner can be unlocked via your phone or mobile device equipped with Bluetooth. Whether you want to simply put the device in bypass for testing purposes, dyno testing, or before/after runs, or to switch between stages/maps, the DINANTronics Dashboard can accommodate it. With an easy to use interface your Dinan-tuned BMW vehicle can switch between tame and aggressive with the swipe of a finger.
Geared with expansion in mind, the DINANTronics Dashboard will only get better with additional functionality slated to be implemented down the road.

NOTE: The DINANTronics Performance Tuner requires the use of Bluetooth 4.0, so older devices utilizing earlier Bluetooth technology will not be compatible.

Is there a corresponding iOS app?

Sorry for being naive, but why would you want to shut it off? Emissions testing?

iOS version is with Apple being tested/approved or whatever they do to give it the Apple voodoo blessing. It should be available soon I would hope as it has been in their court for awhile now.

Bypass feature serves a lot of various benefits including for dyno testing (before and after), back to back speed runs (before and after comparisons which you could also due between stage 1 and 2), troubleshooting (is the problem still there after the tune is turned off), etc. It's also good as a sales tool for the dealers so when they go on test drives they can instantaneously let the potential buyer feel the difference between stock and tuned.

Has nothing to do with emissions though. DINANTRONICS is 50 state emissions legal.

DE will have the better answer for most of your questions. One I can answer is that you can order directly from Dinan and install it yourself. I did on my wife's X5 that already had MPPK on the 35. Dinan is a very nice upgrade for hp on a 35.

People chose Dinan for a conservative tune w/o sacrificing factory warranty. Although sport cats (200-cell) will not throw any CEL, it will void your factory warranty if there's an issue with the engine that's directly caused by the aftermarket cats (i.e. O2 sensor malfunction).

If warranty isn't a concern, then go with caltess DPs and full ECU tune for maximum gains. There no sense of paying for Dinan if you're going to void the warranty through other mods. Just my 2 cents.

in my country we dont find a great tuner, i would like to buy a piggy back with evolution stage 2 or 3.

but in piggy back we have all price for the same power. is difficult to make a choice, is important like you say to the reputation of tuner.

dinan is serious tuner, but there is not more power than the competitor and the price is in middle range..

it s easy to sold a power , it s a real power for the competitor?

jb4 : 500$ +55 hp
velos : 1999$ + 97hp
dinan : 2999$ + 55hp
manahart : 5000$ : +80 cv
ac schnitzer : 11 500$ : +80cv

i try to know what is the best compromise, when i see the number, is velos...but someone have tested velos or jb4.?

i would like to buy a piggy back...but what...

JB4 hasn't released anything for the X5M/X6M yet. ESS E-Tronic Tuner is missing from your list.

Is there a certified Dinan dealer where you live? If so, you can check them out.

Hi Sebastien,

We only offer stage 1 for the X5M. JB4 is not compatible.
It is still good for 50+whp gain.

Best,
Ando

what do you think about ess?
we don t have a certified dealer for dinan.

FYI, you're thread jacking. Why don't you post your questions on a separate thread vs distracting the Dinan's thread?

That's awesome, Steve. I bet some kids pulling up next to you at the light and revving their engines have no idea what your car is capable of.

You're welcome. The X5M is a beast stock. Tuned, its a prehistoric beast that is only extinct because it simply ate all of its food sources.

I keep telling people to just test drive them because they are so fun and encouraging the dealers to build demos w/ Dinan on them just because they will sell themselves. Personally, i think its probably one of, if not the most, enjoyable vehicle in the current lineup.

Oh yeah, just wait for the additional stages, it gets even more frenetic. =)
