Yup, the X5M is already somewhat of a sleeper. Those who don't know the ///M division think it's just a grocery getter, but with the Stage 1...look out!!!

I keep telling people to just test drive them because they are so fun and encouraging the dealers to build demos w/ Dinan on them just because they will sell themselves. Personally, i think its probably one of, if not the most, enjoyable vehicle in the current lineup.

Oh yeah, just wait for the additional stages, it gets even more frenetic. =)
Any hints on the improvements for Stage 2???

I had it installed by my BMW service department; they are an authorized Dinan installer. Installation price varies depending on who does the install. It generally takes about 2 hours.

I notice the additional power when I'm more aggressive with the accelerator. I don't notice it if I'm driving in a conservative manner.

Took my X5M to the drag strip

I ran the 1/4 mile last night. The best run was 11.940 @ 115.87 mph (DINANTRONICS Stage 1 active, no launch control). My worst run was 12.537 @ 116.10 mph (DINANTRONICS Stage 1 active, launch control). Anyone know why I had such a crappy time with launch control? I was able to run 12.366 @ 111.19 mph with the Stage 1 bypassed and using launch control.

Don't mean to thread jack, but:

The application for the F85 X5M is currently listed as 49-state only. Is it safe to assume that CA testing is underway? ETA?

Yes. F85/F86 model testing is underway/scheduled. CARB testing is a bit backlogged at the moment due to other, more pressing issues, on their plate (VW) so I really couldn't give you an ETA other then it is coming.

Ok so my Dinantronics finally got installed after a few hiccups but let me tell you it impressed my mechanics from the get go and me even more. I forgot how fast the X5M was stock since driving around in a loaner X3 2.8i but let me tell you the Dinan upgrade is very noticeable. Pulls harder right off the line and throttle response is even faster. Like driving in sport throttle. Haven't really had a chance to test it out on the freeway but it is way too fast in the city. Will post more soon.

Glad to hear everything finally got resolved. Let us know how you like it after you have had a chance to really test it out. Would love to hear some honest impressions.

FYI for those with iOS devices, the DINANTRONICS app is now in the App Store so you can change mappings on the fly.

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/dina...036838408?mt=8

DINAN is borrowing my truck again for more super secret awesome stuff. Can't wait to get it back and try this out.

Thanks for the update, will try the app today. As for the upgrade so far no issues. Seems biggest performance difference is from 5-60mph, primarily in midrange. Feels quick of the line but not as noticeable at speed. I commute 50 miles each way for work and about 40 is highway. Usually cruise at 75-80mph and occasionally pass. There the Dinantronics upgrade doesn't make a huge impact. However I feel the intake and exhaust are part of the issue. Waiting for good upgrades to those parts.

Great thread.

Being a VAG guy for years (Audi TT's, VW GTI/R), I'm always interested in a tune.

Are there any Dinan distributors in Australia?

Southern BM in Melbourne would be the main one. But there are other internet based distributors as well that service the country as well.

Thanks. I just checked your site and came across Southern BM.

I'm based in Sydney, a different state but I'll give them a call.

Has anyone put in the Dinan in their F85? Interested to see what real life gas mileage is like with the add on. Been thinking of getting it once I am done with my 1200 mile service. Given it is my daily commute vehicle I don't want to end up getting 5 miles to the gallon

Thanks

Yeah, after spending 1.5 hours in traffic this morning on the way into work, i'm packing shit to say the least.

If I could add a module which not only gives me a nice boost as well as a fuel saving, I'm all over it.

I'm also concerned about gas mileage. Using the iphone app to switch between high performance and fuel efficiency would be nice.

Selecting between economy, stock and stage 1/2 would be great, on those long highway runs it may come in handy.
