I seem to recall the change to the 880cc engines was to slow down the speeds the bikes were obtaining. Looks like Dorna has just accepted the engineers will figure out how to work the rules to get more speed.

The one thing I disagree with the author of the article on is his assertion increases in top speed won't impact rider safety. He said there haven't been any crashes where the riders a ringing it out down the straight. Yes, this is true. But he forgets that there's a corner at the end of these high speed straights. That's where the crashes happen where these guys are late braking and jockeying for position. Also, many of the tracks are not autocross courses where the straights are short and limited. The overall speeds are going to higher across the entire track. Just witness the pretty regular occurrence of lap records being broken.
