22x9 and 22x10.5 Tire Sizes

Hi All,

Bit on the Vossen sale and ordered a set of wheels but now I'm struggling to figure out what the right tires sizes should be.

I was thinking of running 285/35s all the way around but now am thinking 285s will be too wide for the 9" front wheels. Anyone running a 285 on 9" wheels?

The other option I am thinking is 265/35 Front and 295/30 Rear. The only issue is that the Front will be about 1% larger than the Rear...will this cause any major issues with xDrive?

Any other thoughts on available tire sizes that will work? I don't really want to go any narrower than 265 up front if possible.

TIA!

Hey I think we talked on the phone this morning about this. I did some more research and found that 285's will not fit on the front. A 275 will fit the front but the 285 is a bit too wide. Pirelli has 275's available for 22's. The overall diameter difference between the two sizes is .3" So I don't think there will be any effect on the xDrive. Hope this helps!

Hey Steve, yep that was me. What's the aspect ratio for the 275 Pirellis?

I'm glad we got those wheels ordered for you. The aspect ratio on the pirellis is a 35. 275/35R22.

285mm front tire size is a stock 21 inch setup and it fits just fine. Even 295mm fits with no rubbing

1% bigger front tires are no issue

Really? I was told they could not fit. And when I checked minimum wheel width for a 285 it was a 9.5.

You are right - they are too wide for his front rim width, but I meant they can fit on x5 front without issues

Found some staggered tires in the following sizes:

265/35/22 FR
295/30/22 RR

OR

275/35/22 FR
315/30/22 RR

Will a 275/35/22 stick out too far on a 22x9 front with 15 offset?? Can't seem to get a clear answer from the calculators.

Wheel specs:
22x9 ET15 FR
22x10.5 ET20 RR

So stock size for 21 inch is 285/35/21 on 10 inch wide rim with 40 offset.

Your setup (275/35/22 on 9 inch wide rim with 15 offset) will be about 8mm (1/3 inch) more sticking out (mostly due to your rim offset) compared to above stock size setup. If you have fender flares - that's not going to be an issue at all

Thanks Dush, when I do the calculator it's telling me that I'll be sticking out an extra 20mm from the stock 21 inch wheel/tire size and 25mm from the stock 20 in wheel/tire size...How are you arriving at 8mm?

Just trying to convince myself it'll be ok and I won't have tires poking out from the fenders.

Thanks

My bad, you are right. Tire will stick out 20mm and rim 12mm compared to stock 21 inch wheel (not from fender), but it will clear without issues https://www.wheel-size.com/calc/?whe...cl=30mm&sr=0mm

However, keep in mind stock 21 inch wheels with 285/35/21 are not even close to be sticking out if you have fender flares. People use spacers to get them flash

Thanks Dush. Appreciate the reassurance on this. I also found this thread where the guy is running the Hartge wheels which are extremely aggressive and don't look like they stick out past the fender flares.

This is what i mean: on this pic you can see x5m (same wheel fitment exactly as x5) with stock 21 oem bmw wheels 285/35/21 front and 325/30/21 rears - you can see that with fender flares they look recessed - not even close to been sticking out. That's why people put spacers to at least get them flash. So in your case - it will be similar as to having 12mm spacer - just ideal IMHO, but if you are looking for stock looks - then yes, maybe go with something less aggressive
