Hey, no doubt about that - I was just wondering why some in this thread seem to be ignoring your info about the (non-)availability of TJA.
If I would doubt what you said, I wouldn't have asked where the info would be coming from IF NOT FROM BMW. I provided your quote and received a response from barcelona, quoting the US ordering-guide with the TJA-info for December - which is obviously wrong. I was just curious why nobody besides me seemed to care about what you posted in regards to TJA and I thought it would be necessary to focus the discussion on your insider-info because IMO, it doesn't make much sense to discuss a feature (TJA) that won't be available in the first place. Sorry if my post led to the impression that I would be accusing you of making bogus-claims. My intention was quite the opposite. |

I brought up the corrected info because it was a feature post of this forum the had the wrong info broadcasted. There is lots of good info here, but there is also a lot of assumptions I read all over this forum and some of the stuff I read is laughable at best. I'm just here to report accurate information. I've attached a screen shot to validate my info internally.

Could the change mean that it's not automatically added vs. not available at all? That could somewhat change my decision as to value of ACC Stop & Go. Is all that I'm giving up without TJA the automated steering? Does Stop & Go eliminate having to be on / off the gas and brake in traffic?

Sorry to be dense here, but what is the difference between 5AR and 5AT? Is it possible that 5AT actually does do what we Californians are looking for, i.e. allow us to get through painlessly those daily long crawling traffic jams by just keeping one hand on the wheel?

The optional Traffic Jam Assistant will also be on hand to make life easier for the driver, significantly increasing the scope for relaxation in monotonous motorway tailbacks. This system automatically keeps the car in the same lane, even when the road bends around a corner. It is part of the Driving Assistant Plus option, which also includes Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function and Collision Warning with braking function. The cruise control function, underpinned by radar sensors and a camera, reacts with even greater precision to the driving situation at hand and also to stationary objects. |

Check out the owner's manual recently posted here: http://www.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=910364
it makes reference to "Congestion Assist" which seems identical to the Traffic Jam Assist. Does this mean that they're including this in USA models now? |

No traffic jam assist in the USA
This option is only for European models for the X5.
BMW knowledge data base says the following: Please note that contrary to previous communication on 2014 F15 X5 PKoD videos and Start of Communication, the following options and functionality will not be available on the F15 for the US market: - Traffic Jam Assistant (option 5AR) - Power closing of the tailgate using the key fob Park Assistant (option 5DP) was previously communicated as an available option at launch but will be delayed until SOP 12/13. |

I hope liability is not the reason TJA is not coming to USA? Did the new Mercedes S class hold up autonomous drive as well? I hate to order an X5 for a spring delivery then have this option show up for 2015.

According to BMW corporate, liability is the only reason traffic jam assist will not debut in the USA for a couple of years. Liability laws in Europe are much more relaxed. Has to be vetted out there first. Also keep in mind that for traffic jam assist to work currently one of your hands has to be on the wheel. So long as you have acc stop/go, your just fine.

^ DR1er.... well said as you site three unavailable functions that begs the question why not. In Canada , Speed Limit Info not normally available. I understand that many options/pkgs are not available in Australia. Also big price variance between the three countries.

We all know each corporation has their own interpretation of their product liability. Look at it this way, it's something to look foward to in your next BMW you purchase. I can't explain the keyfob tailgate open/closing issue.

You can always have the car re-coded for auto close of the tailgate after purchase. Local dealers here won't do it but they are happy to refer you to someone who will. Just remember to de-code it before you return the car if leased.
