M50D interior options

Looking at getting a M50D in Sapphire Black.

Wondering about the Alcantara /leather interior option.

Has anyone got it or seen it and your thoughts?

Cheers.

Hey slowie - sorry to see the M3 is going, but interested to find out about the move into the M50d!?

I was incredibly close to going down the M3 route, but sensibility took over (a little 15 month old boy) and I went with the X5 M50d instead.

That and I couldn't justify the $220k to move into the X5M here in Australia, lol.

As for the Alcantara interior on the M50d, I haven't seen it in person though it does look quite nice in video's i've seen.

I must say however that for me it feels lacking somewhat. Personally I went with the Mocha Nappa.

The Mocha Nappa lifts the car considerably above those fitted with Dakota and certainly those with the Alcantara. It's not for everyone though.

My accountant has advised me to get rid of 1 of my cars, so both the cruiser and the M3 are on the sales list.

I need a large car to pull a horse float..... yeah yeah I know what your thinking!!

I also want a car that's fun to drive, hence my current cars, so if I can only have one a M50D fits the bill

Just deciding on the interior currently, I see the black interior only comes in Alcantara/leather or Dakota???

Other option is Ivory, but again in the nice leather its completely ivory and the floor will be black before I know it.....

You can get Ivory/Black combo, but only in Dakota.

I checked out all interior options when looking for mine, and the two/tone Ivory/Black Dakota does look nice.

It makes the interior feel more spacious overall.

Is there any reason you wouldn't go for the Mocha Nappa? There's nothing wrong with Dakota, it's just not as premium.

actually I have the alcantara Dakota combination and chose it after seeing it in person. I really think it looks good and shows literally no wear and tear after one and a half years of using the car (drove 50k km already). Now, what I am doing to make that interior even better looking is replace the aluminum hexagon trim (by the way, that one scratches really easily so be careful if you choose it) with the M performance CF + alcantara trim plus replace the 2 aluminum inserts in the center column (between the driver and passenger seats) with the knee pads you can get on X6 or X5M/X6M. I think such a change will improve the aesthetics of the X5 interior (and the BMW dealer gave me a 99% fit for the knee pads change :-) )

Got an M50d, in Sapphire black with red leather. Saw the alcantara, but felt leather more upmarket and wanted red to be even bolder - result!

I agree. I have a little apprehensive about the Dakota Leather after driving the 650 with Nappa Leather for a few years... but my apprehension dissolved instantly when I saw it in person upon delivery!

The Dakota is surprisingly soft and comfortable as well. Maybe it's the seat adjustments I made this time around, but even after 4 days, the seats in my X6 feel more comfortable (and less squeaky) than my out going Gran Coupe.

I'm doing the same thing! I'll be going with the X5M knee pads for the center console as they're in Merino vs Dakota which you find on the standard X6. Should work really nicely with the CF trim.

I'm assume you guys with tee red interior in your M50d's have X6's? I don't believe the red is available in the X5 outside of the X5M.

In fact the knee pad comes from x5m as that can be ordered as 'individual' option

Hi,
Are you adding the pads in the near future? If so, would love to hear they can really replace the aluminum trims. My parts arrive only end of January...so still some time to wait. Thanks

I've only made initial enquiries about it, but was told it can be done.

Next step is to find out what's involved. At $250 an hour from BMW to do any work, it would want to be a quick job.

The parts alone will run about $600-700 if I recall correctly.

BTW, that Alcantara roof lining looks incredible.

I know but I am afraid to allow them to do such extensive "touching" of my car. The knee pad parts in Germany are around 220 euro each side but I have negotiated the installation of both the CF&alcantara trim and the knee pads at 250 euro in total, including a replacement car for that day. They have a 3,5h installation time recommended by BMW for the CF /alcantara trim and they will try to push that on you if they can. The dealer also told me this is "more than a half a day work" but I guess that's only to justify the price tag.

So I went to the dealer here in Perth, so many options to chose.

Having a M3 carbon and alcantara are my favourite.

Ivory and black is also delicious.

That Alcantara roof lining is an extra $1700 AUD

Ouch. That's not cheap, though considering how much area it covers, probably quite reasonable.

I know what you mean coming from an M3. The interior of my SQ5 was black/red with carbon. The M50d with Mocha is much more conservative, however pictures I've seen show Mocha with Carbon to look very good.

Yeah, I see that, it is a concern as down here it regularly gets to 40 degrees in Summer.....
