For those who have Diesel

Hello Guys,

Anyone of you experience this? On a full stop (traffic light or stop sign) then I step on accelerator and I hear this noise like a old manual type writer noise. My HPFP have been replaced along with the fuel lines and all injectors. I don't want to get stranded again because BMW assist/sos did not help much, two tow trucks refused since we cannot get the transmission out of park. Good thing my friend have AAA and we used regular tow truck with dolly. Anyway, now I now how to get it out of park have to go under the vehicle. Anyway, back to my question, anybody hear the same thing I do?

I hear what sounds like a PD pump every once in a while when taking off from a stop (usually right after starting). It's a quick pup-pup-pup like a reciprocating piston pump. I assumed it was the secondary DEF Fluid pump transferring from the back DEF tank to the engine tank.

It's a fueling problem which is why they replaced the high pressure fuel pump. Since you actually heard the fuel injectors firing (manual typewriter sound), hopefully they weren't damaged in the low fuel condition. The fuel injectors need lots of fuel under high pressure for lubrication and our injectors fire 6 times per combustion cycle. That means the solenoid will fire 4 times per second per injector at idle. It wouldn't take long for the injectors to be damaged even at idle with low fuel.

Thanks All!

I am almost due for service, but it appears that I have to take it in early. Another week of stay (sav) at the dealership :-( hopefully with a loaner this time although they paid for the rental last time.

Two failed HPFPs? That smells like a bigger problem.
