Steering Rack Issues
So 2015 X6 M-Sport, 3500 miles and I get this "drive moderately, steering effort increase" and power steering goes out randomly. Take it in, first report my selling dealer "left vehicle in transport mode", second report "electric steering rack needed replacing", and final report "entire steering rack needed replacing".
Covered under warranty although they said that if not for steering rack issue I would have had to pay for the transport mode issue. Invoice wasn't "ready" when I picked up so it supposedly being mailed to me. Anyone else have this issue? Steering rack or transport mode? I will say scary having the power steering go out unexpectedly while making a turn! It would go out and come back etc., on one occasion I almost ran into a 7 series. Couldn't make the curve and had to make a veer into the wrong way lane of an entrance to a parking lot |

So are they replacing the steering rack?
I imagine things break. For every number good parts there will always be some that fail. I would call that normal. |

Why on earth would they tell you that you would have to pay for transport mode issue - if they left it in transport mode, that would be on them!

Yeah, that just doesn't make much sense.

Yes they replace entire steering rack, I will know more when the invoice arrives hopefully.
And I took car to my local dealer literally a mile from home, but I bought it from a dealer in Missouri, so they were blaming the Missouri dealer. Either way that would have been my next question to them, why would I have to pay? But they said they found other work |

.
I can see them charging for correcting another dealer's stupidity (which turned out not to be the case) ... but you would have had a claim against the selling dealer if they had to do that ... remember, dealers are independent companies, and BMWNA would not reimburse the local dealer for correcting the selling dealer's mistake However, I'd think it unlikely you would not have noticed that it was in transport mode in the 3500 miles you drove it! . |

Agreed, I never heard of transport mode before and I didn't notice anything not working. When I asked what was transport mode he says it was simply a setting to prevent certain things from operating.
I looked it up online and it says it shuts down some electronics to save battery in transport. Beside my Heater fan not blowing until car temp rose that's about the only difference I noticed. |

After trying twice to repair /replace the steering rack on my VW in 2009, they took the leased vehicle back and refunded all lease payments. I thought that was the least they could do at that time. Nowadays, You basically cannot steer the vehicle w/o the power steering active. My experience. This is a life threatening fault of the vehicle and you should let them know. Time to be "Donald Trump" and not "Jeb Bush "

Guys who took their cars in for the issue noted that the steering part number would change suggesting Audi was very aware of the issue and trying to fix with redesigned parts. Only affected the 3.0T and SQ5s.
