Not surprised. BMW already assembles in India.....and elsewhere....
Non-German Plant Locations Thailand: 3, 5, 7 series, X3 Russian: 3, 5 Series, X3 Egypt: 3, 5, 7 series, X3 Indonesia: 3, 5 series Malaysia: 3, 5 series India 3, 5 series, and now X5 South Africa: 3 series, X3 Mexico: 1, 3 series, Mini to roll off soon. Plant under construction since '14 China: 3, 5 series, X1 and a new all electric Zinoro (X1). 3 & 5 series LWB models. One reason Alibaba and Aliexpress are filled with knock off BMW components is that Brilliance makes many BMW based cars, with slightly different interior/exterior cosmetics. US: X1, X3, X5, X6 and X7 expected. Brazil: 1, 3 series, X1, X3, Mini Italy: Motorcycles In China alone BMW has surpassed 1 million unit production for X1 and 3 series VW saw this trend coming decades ago and took the slogan "German Engineered", as they hardly make an fully assembled units in Germany anymore.

Well the BMWs made in China aren't that good in terms of quality from what I've seen.
