Is the "dead pedal" supposed to move?
I believe the driver's foot rest on the left side is supposed to be rigidly mounted in-place - at least it has been on my previous BMWs - but in my X5 it has some movement. If I put my foot toward the top and give it a little pressure, it moves about a half inch as if it pivots around its center.
Anyone else have this, and is it normal? Again, in all my previous BMWs this spot was rock-solid as if it was a part of the chassis.

Update: Dealer to address the problem
I took my X5 by the dealer yesterday and a service technician came up to take a look at the dead pedal. He felt the amount of movement was excessive, but noted that the pedal is held in place by only the surrounding carpet and trim pieces. I have an appointment tomorrow to have them address the issue.

I tried to push on mine, but I can barely reach the bottom of it! Not so surprisingly, there's no movement where it meets the floor . Short people problems.
Functionally, my dead pedal is the edge of the door surround. |

Never noticed any movement, but can't say I've ever put any pressure at the top of it. Just tried it and while it does have some give to it, it is not a pivot or anything, you can just feel that it isn't against something completely flat and solid. If it's on top of carpet like gpitts said, that explains the tiny bit of movement I get. It's like compressing a carpet, not pivoting on an axis or anything like that. It only does so if I push on the top half and it barely moves. This would never happen just resting my foot there.
