Yeah I agree on the value/$$ proposition. Depreciation is typically an issue when buying the last year of any model but the residuals for leasing teh 2013 X5's are still high.

This is actually pretty exciting. In the States, practically no one uses their SUV for any kind of off-roading whatsoever. And while AWD is better for driving in inclement weather, which this country has plenty of, here in SoCal I don't know why anyone wouldn't opt for a RWD SUV over an AWD one if it comes with the benefits of being cheaper, lighter, and more performant.

If it is going to be based on F10 chassis then 3rd doesn't make sense. I personally like the new shape of the car specially its hood which looks slightly longer than E70.

I've had a 4.8 E70 and now a diesel one and I can say that RWD would ruin this car. AWD is the best thing about it, it gives you so much confidence. I've actually done a canyon run with the 4.8 and I can say that because of AWD its the best handling SUV out there.

Maybe it's time to try some other SUVs?
It's handles well, but far from being best

RE: awd.
I dont see how it helps X5 in canyon runs, except making it nose heavy

I think RWD X5 diesel would be a perfect choice for a lot of americans who live in warmer states

What do you think the X25D is, that's your smaller 4 cylinder diesel engine option, matches nicely with the ML250 CDi which is selling like hotcakes where I live..

There wont be a heated windshield. The SA 358 option code means only clima comfort windshield to prevent heating of salon inner space - UV/IR filter.

there are few others that handle MUCH better than the 4.8, might want to check them out if you want a kick ass daily to rip through the canyons with. but I'll agree that it handles pretty damn well

p.s. I used to own a 4.8 also

Maybe I should have said "Best in its class" I don't think anything touches it when equipped with the adaptive suspension. I'm sure X5/6 M is better but that's a given.

i wish they would take the first gen design and improve the engine, handling, xdrive, bit of cosmetics, etc. would be the perfect SUV.

The current X3 looks completely different from the 1st gen X5. There's a 1st gen X5 4.8 in my building parking lot and it looks amazing from my window!

Yup, just keep that body style with minor cosmetic changes and improve the electronics, handling etc.

what the hell is this "pure excellence" "pure experience" sh*t?

this option list makes no sense at all, but i'm all for more std content and availability of the sport 8AT tranny. i will wait to judge it in the flesh.

So my 2 year old X5 is about to go obsolete in a few months, sucks but age is just a number. I am loving the options on the next gen. Looking forward to the X6. You can't go wrong with either though

Uh you haven't driven a Cayenne Turbo. I have the 35d. My boss has the Turbo. There is no comparison in handling the Porsche is light years better.

Best X5 is still the first one. I am losing my hopes for this one. Didn't like the design that much. I fell in love with the first gen. when I first saw it. Also I think E53 has a better interior than current E70. As well as the exterior.

very intresting, X5 coming as S-drive.
I predicted the entry level engine, because of the weight loss from E70, and the new ML has this solution with a I4 diesel.
It makes the new X5 more available for a broader audience, and i guess it also makes way for a X7/8 down the road.
MB GL needs some competition.
The only thing i know is that the entry level engine is not for me, a I4 diesel is not Suitable for the X5, and i'm unsure about the look.
The E70 still looks great and pretty fresh to me, but i guess it will grow on me, as usual!
