Album Art
Sorry, I sorta asked this question before but its a little different this time.
I understand that XM Radio does NOT do Album Art. Local FM HD Radio does it fine. But using BT Streaming from my iPhone is hit and mostly miss with Album Art. I have tried: Pandora, maybe the first song will display Art and track info, volume level is low. If you track skip the song info does not update. Spotify, pretty much the same issue as with Pandora, first song displays info and Art but does not update after that. Volume level is great, matches the Sat Radio. XM/Sirius Radio App, same as the others, volume level low. iTunes App, same and low volume level. So anyone with an iPhone 5S get a better result? What about an Android phone, what do you guys get? |

Ok, I just updated it, pretty easy too.
However it did not have any change, I just tried all the App's, Spotify, Pandora ect and they all display the first songs info and art, but when you skip or the song ends and goes to the next one the info on the screen doesn't change to the new title. So does anyone have this working on their iPhone?? |

I haven't tried yet, but will and let you know. I had my car flashed to I-Level 52.2 over the weekend and one of the modules updated was NBT/iDrive. Some changes (new icons, a few interface tweaks) were among the things I've noticed and perhaps connectivity with external devices was updated as well.

Hi,
This is my first BMW, so I'm not sure what you mean by "flashed to I-level 52.2"? Is this something anyone can do, how do I tell which load I currently have and if it is updatable, how? I think you are talking about something other than the software update from bmw.com/update correct? Thanks! Chris |

Well I tried it with a new Galaxy S5 and it don't show the Album Art as well. As for the cable its a PITA, why take the time to connect a cable, then launch the BMW connected app then launch Pandora, when you can just get in the car and hit the Media button and the BT streaming starts without ever touching your phone.

Some Android phones will give Album art when streaming. The only one I've used so far that works is the Nexus 5. Moto X and HTC One M8 Google Play edition are both a no go.

IMO, the iDrive using anything other than the Radio is a cluster. Streaming works, plays the songs but doesn't give you any info about what your listening too. Using the USB is even worse. Good thing I use Sat Radio 95% of the time. |

You cannot use BMW Apps with BT : it only works with USB cable or snap in.
If you connect your iphone in BT, and then 'stream' the sound from apps like pandora, spotify or napster web radio, yes you can get the sound in your car but this is not actually BMW apps with integrated controls and thus album art. In BT, you'll get album art only from reading music you have in your iPhone (from Apple music app), and then you can also fully control your library (search, list, play/pause/next/previous, etc.) |

Launch the pandora app on your phone. Connect cable. On idrive, go to BMW connected, pandora. That's it. As I've said, Bluetooth audio streaming doesn't support album art consistently. |

I've tried everything to make it work, I did use the USB Cable with the Pandora App and just like BT it will display the first song title and art but will not update when the next song starts. Also the volume level compared to the radio is much lower on all music apps except Spotify. I had an Audi Q7 and while it didn't support Album Art at least the song and track info updated. This iDrive is a POC IMO. Another thing that doesn't update is the Clock Weather Widget, I have split screen setup with the Radio/Media on the left and the Clock Weather on the right. I'd say about 60% of the time when you make short stops, grocery store, gas ect and get back in the car the Clock Weather hangs, you have to go into settings and force it to refresh to get it back online. I've called BMW Genius, yeah right, Genius, they Don't Know Jack is what it should be called, LOL, but they are nice. Anyway iDrive is still in Beta. |
