Why the 380 in the designation? Not like it has 380 PS/HP or TQ. Shame but it will be cheaper for VAG to make a single 8 or 10 speed for all the hot hatches in preparation for transition to 1 speed electric.

It's getting comical how many Ls VW has taken over the past few years. You could make the argument that VW was the coolest non-luxury automaker of the 2000s with highly unusual cars like VR6-powered Golfs/Jettas, W8-powered Passats, diesels available on basically everything (remember the V10 Touareg?), etc. Then dieselgate happened and out went all the cool stuff for completely soulless and mediocre crossovers, with the only holdouts about to be stuck with the wrong transmission for the rest of their existence. And the 380 name is dumb, nobody cares about some irrelevant internal model code that has never been used anywhere by any non-VW employee ever to refer to the car.

We now live in the world of absurd CAFE standards. The manual transmissions are one of the first victims. The future will be automatic transmissions that will have so many gears you will be in third by the time you get to the end of your drive way.

Us enthusiasts are the minority. We do not keep them in business. The non-performance variants keep them in business & the performance cars we love in production

From what I've seen, most people walk onto a car lot knowing zero or damn close to it.

For the several thousand people who were glad VW offered a MT and for the eleven people who bought the car with one this is disappointing news.

Looks like the Mini Cooper will be the next to fall. Reportedly no manual will be available on the coming generation.

So true. I owned an MK7 Golf R with the DSG and the reality is that 90% of our provincial community were driving the automatics. The "Save the manual" people are extremely vocal but haven't put their money where their mouth is and if nobody buys them, then manufacturers aren't going to make them. Besides the VW manual transmission in those cars is even more of an afterthought than the BMW manual transmissions so nobody is really missing much.
