FWIW I just got off the phone with my dealer and here is the scoop they swear is true.

The X5 50i is waiting for an flash to the engine module from Germany.

The problem is that the "Check engine light" was coming on because the sensors thought the car was low on oil when in fact it was not.

I was told the software would be available to the port the first week in November.

Like I say FWIW.

^ Thanks utahm5 for the detailed info. I think the only mechanical change is the 45 hp increase. What else could cause this hiccup?

Being in the software business I can tell you first hand that bugs are introduced all the time. So it is entirely possible they accidently broke what was working just fine while trying to "fix" something else. This is a software issue not a hardware issue.

Another reason for not being first in the queue and waiting a few months for BMW to iron out the wrinkles every new car has. Made more complex now because of the amount of software in 21C vehicles.

So are you suggesting we should wait 4 years for the car we want, just to avoid having to take it in for service a few times?

No way! My lease is up in March so I got some time. I hoping everyone buys an X5 today. God speed on your purchases.

My CA just called and I guess he got an email stating they won't be released until mid November. No information about why they are being held.

Totally forgot I even ordered one at this point

Assume in mid November we get the "sometime in December" update?

Just would appreciate information instead of frustration.

I'm pretty annoyed at this point. I feel like I negotiated a mediocre deal in order to have one of the early F15 production weeks only to let my 9/24/13 completed car to sit outside at a VPC for weeks on end. Meanwhile, I sold my 335i to get ahead of the winter devaluation of convertibles. I'm now driving my spouse's new Audi S6. BMW, you better watch out. This f15 may be my 6th BMW, but it may be my last... (Of course I'm just venting, while it's a fast car, the Audi S6 steering is like my mom's Buick).

Barcelona

Can you explain this better?

I ordered 217 active steering, 420 on my order is 'privacy glass' and I don't have a 316 at all...

Absolutely,,,, with the actual disclosure.... see post by SHAW #17 from....
http://www.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=906706

316 ( on page 6 of 7) and 420 is now standard ( page 2/2).

Note that there are country differences for certain standard / options.

Hopefully you are ok, if yours is not initial production. Once you get a VIN, decoded will fully disclose all items.

Anyway, back to the waiting, lets hope the Nov 1st date holds.
The X5 50i delay is a Charlie Foxtrot from the get go. My X5 50i has been on the ground in CA for at least THREE WEEKS.

The word I get is that they are waiting for a "flash" for the engine module that shows the car low on oil when it is not.

This IMHO is NOT the real case as a software fix of that magnitude is a couple days at most. My guess their waiting for new sensors or some such piece of hardware that can not be produced fast enough.

It's really beneath BMW to not tell the "real" story to buyers! My Wife is about to cancel as she thinks this car will be a lemon.

The bad thing about canceling is that it takes 6 months to get a Range Rover and I'm not a MB fan.

Just got word that my 50i is being shipped. Expected in dealer by Tuesday or Wednesday of next week. Hope this timeframe is actual. My dealer is showing no delay to my order. Probably because it was produced after the initial hold.

Did you hear this from your dealer or BMWNA? It's not for sure until your vehicle is on the truck! Ask them if it's on the truck.

oh I dunno... it can take up to a day to flash an ecu/troubleshoot any issues...once they've written, tested and released the updated software...

Just called BMW of NA. They know nothing of a hold or software issue or any issue at all. They said its normal for it to sit for a few weeks before it ships. The guy check with a coworker and someone else and all said they have heard of no such problem.

If you call enough, you'll find out that everyone of them will give you a different answer. It's rather sad and disappointing.

I kept pushing the person I was talking with. I told them they "must of lost my X5", lol. Anyway, she left and came back with the reason why the V8 is on hold. It also sounded like she was reading from a memo from BMWNA.

Side note: I kept telling her I was a getting a 50i, and she did confirm that, but I don't think she made the connection between the 50i and a V8. When she came back with the info, she asked directly if I was getting a V8. Made me think that the memo spoke of the V8's having the problem vs saying the 50i has the problem.
