I dont think 20s are big enough to bend in NY
I've hit some ugly potholes with zero issues
However, they are X6M oem 20s (could be forged, stronger)
My winter setup is also 20s, but aftermarket wheels with Nokians and i was lucky not to meet any crazy road imperfections

Actually now that you mention it, I never bent the 214's on my E70, just curbed them pretty bad.

The AMG wheels I was talking about were only 18's though, and I bent I think 3 17" sport wheels on an E46 328 I had back in '99, and bent a couple 19's on my S5.. All OEM wheels. I don't think diameter has anything to do with it as much as the profile of the tire, and obviously strength of the wheel.

And no, I'm not a bad driver, the roads just suck that bad lol. I have had much better luck with my 335 and my wife's X3 that we just traded in on the X5. Just that little extra air and rubber on there has saved me on some pretty nasty potholes going over the bridge and down the turnpike.

I agree.
I only mention rim size because we know all spec (tire cushion) of X5 sized tires.
So 20s would give you bare minimum sidewall for NY IMO

After reading all the conflicting (and well meaning and well reasoned) opinions on this thread, I can only say good luck sorting this out to all of you that live in places with snow.
Having previously lived in MN, IL, WI, OH, CT, and NY, I can only say that you should all find a way to do what I did and move to CA where you will never ever have to think about this again.

I took off my 20" staggered set and used 18" BMW style 215 255x9 with Michelin Latitude Xice II tires. Love it.

18's are tempting because they seem to be more available and more options, but don't they look small on the car or not too bad?

I'm leaning the same way (after being quoted $1800 for the Nokians). Are the 18"s the no line wheel?

Yes.

If I go with one of the BMW packages, it will probably be the 19" x-line wheels (449's). But the 18's do seem to be available a little faster from BMW. My dealer actually had them in stock. They just don't do anything for me.

Did you end up ordering the 19" package from BMW? I am in that mode where I want to order but since it will take so long to get them I am frustrated and want to hold on that expense. Roads are all clean now in MN so I kind don't feel the need now. Will regret after we get more snow this week.

Up to you. Def more options avail.
JT
10" snow today. Huge dif when anything below 7' C turns your high performance rubber into a hockey puck on the ice. 18's are fine.

Not yet. hoping to decide this week. Frustrated as well!! I know I could get a set from tire rack for half the price, but there are just no good options there yet. If I'm going to spend 2500+ on an after market set from mod bargains or somewhere else, might as well get the BMW set. I'll probably just order those and be done with it. We had some snow last weekend and on Tuesday. The all seasons did better than the ones on the X3, but probably not for long and it was only 5 or 6" of snow... So I may just order the bmw set and deal with the wait. Don't want to rush a 3k purchase that I'll have to live with 4 or 5 months a year, but tired of looking too. But I would really prefer to see pics of whatever wheels I'm considering actually on an F15, preferrably on a white m sport like we have. Just not very likely to find this early.

Edit: did mod bargains get in trouble with the mods here? I noticed anytime I type their website or just type **********s (the 2 words together) it gets crossed out with ***'s.... Are they not reputable? I also saw they no longer show their BMW replica wheels on their site, despite other "OEM wheel" sites having them all over.

I don't think they're a sponsor.

I saw a lot of posts about them in the F30 forum as people started "modding" their cars.. That's why I'm wondering if something happened. Maybe they were a sponsor and now aren't..

Ok, so I ordered the cold weather wheel & tire package with the 449's.

The X-line wheels (this pic from AEC's PCD helped me decide..) with Pirelli Scorpion Ice+Snow r-f. 255/50R19 107V tires. Hopefully they'll look good on the M Sport too, at least good enough for 4 months of the year. I ended up just ordering online, so I have no idea how long they'll take. I just emailed the dealership to find out, should have an idea tomorrow.

If anyone with photoshop skills feels like putting the wheels from the x-line on the m sport in second pic, that would be awesome and appreciated.

The order confirmation didn't give any date so I emailed the guy at the dealership that sent the promotion to see if he had an idea of how long it'll take. At this point, any option I have found would take at least a week or so with no sensors, so if these take 2 or 3 with sensors, seems worth the wait. I'm hoping it won't be any worse than that. He told me a week ago they were taking about 3 weeks to get these.

They were $2778 total including a small shipping fee to NY (not sure where they're coming from, dealership or direct from BMW).

Was the promotion you got a BMW official deal or a dealer sponsored one?

Dealer sponsored. I even tried using the promo code on my dealer's website and it didn't work. It's from a dealer in Jersey, BMW of Newton (Open Road BMW of Newton I think it is).

I wonder if these qualify under the CCA 15% parts discount.

He's saying mid January for the 19's I ordered, or he can get the 18's in a week. So frustrated.

I may keep my order as is and cancel if I find a better option before they come in. We have the brand new all-seasons on it now, not like we're working with summers until they come in.
